Thanks for the reply. It’s gonna take a lot of time to go back through all of my footage and JUSt recapture specific clips, so I was trying to avoid that if possible. But if I gotta, I gotta. Maybe I’ll try the copying method for the next shoot, before I digitize.

    Thanks!

    Hey, thanks for responding.

You are correct, the footage was already captured once using FCP 5, and this wasn’t an issue. The issue then was that it wouldn’t let me capture in HDV, the only codec that would work was Apple Intermediate, which I didn’t want.

So, I upgraded to FCP 7 and the HDV codec worked just fine…. but now this. I have digitized from both the camera and from an HDV deck, both with the same result, on different tapes (both fresh from the package when they were recorded on within the last month or so).

Ah yep that’s exactly what I’ve been told it is. Now I just need to fix it. The scene in question wasn’t very well written to begin with, so maybe this was God’s say of telling me to cut it. 🙂

I believe it’s a Sony HDVRA1U. I’ve been told by others that it’s a problem with the 24p mode vs. the florescent lights, but at this point I just need to try and fix it, I don’t think reshooting is an option (and we can’t turn off the florescents even if it was).

I’ll try your idea to fix it though, thanks for suggesting it. Do you know offhand what the expression would be to loop my “bars?” I’m terrible with expressions…

    Here are a few screenshots:

They are like scrolling bars of discoloration. I’m not sure it’s interference, we shot in the apartment 20 feet away and everything came out fine, the only difference was the lights, but you could be right. They DO seem to scroll uniformly, so your suggestion might be the way to go.

I’m on FCP 5, and I can’t get it to recognize or capture from either device that I’ve tried. If there’s a trick to it I’d love to know, because I’ve tried everything I can think of.

Thank you, that helps tremendously! I was hoping to avoiding spending money on the upgrade right now, but I suppose its time anyway. I will give it a shot, thank you!

Not whining, sir. Just explaining my situation. I even thought my reply was pretty good-natured, considering. I apologize if I offended, it was just an honest question.

    Thanks for the advice, guys.

Contrary to popular belief, I DO realize that this should have been shot differently and I DO know how hard/time-consuming rotoscoping is. I looked at my footage, realized that’s what I would probably have to do, and decided to check with you fine gents to see if there was a simpler way that I didn’t know about. The lecture on production planning was not necessary. No one, myself included, ever said “we’ll fix it in post”. Doing things this way was a last minute idea… the guys in the scene were originally supposed to be listening to a speaker-phone, Charlie’s Angel’s style, hence the lack of practical lighting effect. And due to the nature of this project (and the poor communication in my production department) there is not time to reshoot things. I wish there were. But as it is, the project is looking better than I’d thought, and since I dread rotoscoping I think I’ll stick with what I’ve got. No one watching this will notice the lighting anyway, it was more to satisfy my own personal vanity and perfectionism.

    Thanks guys!

All I’m trying to do is import some pre-made lower third clips from an Editor’s Toolkit set. Has anyone done this on Avid and gotten it to work properly?
