I have stopped using prelude because of inconsistent renaming across different formats, the inability to rename some formats, etc. It’s a mess. If you’re transcoding anyway, perhaps create dailies in Resolve? It’s a great app.

Well, it’s not unusual for a sound recordist to deliver 6-8 tracks per take – 2 mixdown, 1 boom, 2-3 character lavs + any additional characters or plant mics easily add up.
I understand that if I had a 4-channel original, I would need a 4-channel proxy – however, my question about that was “If I output all original tracks in uncompressed WAVs when creating proxies, do I destroy important metadata?” This is what I’m curious about.
Pray tell, what is this “very powerful” audio sync feature. Will it sync 1000s of clips in 10 seconds, as I can do in Resolve? It’s my understanding that Adobe doesn’t have this feature.
And yes… “The main issue you have is that this process is going to take some time due to the volume of material you’re working with.” You’re right. That’s why I’m posting.

Yup! There it is. Appears both help files as well as the shortcut on the Effects panel haven’t been enabled yet.
Thanks.

You’re saying that you’re editing .dng sequences? That’s a red flag for me – can you try transcoding those first and then going to color? DNG sequences aren’t exactly the easiest thing to work with. I usually send my colorist renders of DNG sequences and then send them original files to re-link to sequences.
Another solution would be just to output the whole timeline flat to one single file and then do anything with crossfades separately. That’s the backup solution.
Last, the colorist only needs ONE TRACK of video – so if you have 2+ tracks of video, you compound your potential for error – try flattening it down to one. I do this by starting at the top track, selecting the entire track then just “nudging” it down one track with a custom shortcut that I’ve set. Then, I re-select all clips on that track and do the same. Make a copy of sequence before doing this.
Also (make copy before this as well) delete all audio files – why keep those around?
A very hack-y solution might be to watch the progress bar and figure out approx when it fails, and you can look at a certain point in the show when it fails to figure out.
You might try exporting in “reels”. Try to separate it out into 10-minute sequences. At minimum, you should be able to isolate the problem.

I am seeing this AutoSave problem as well. Don’t let the haters get you down. Although it’s our responsibility to save consistently, and although you shouldn’t be crashing consistently, the AutoSave should work.
Please report the AutoSave issue to Adobe on the bug form so they can get it fixed.

Hello, Zoltan –
I’ve worked with a lot of subtitled content in my time. It really is a pain in the butt, for sure.
I have not found a way to import captions reliably through the premiere caption features.
My best way that I’ve found is actually to use ARscript’s “Subtitle Import” ($29 I think). It imports as an AE file, and you can style it to look really good. You’ll have to use Aegsub to save as a SRT first, though.
Then, you can either render out AE, or embed using Dynamic Link, if your computer is fast enough. This operation seems to be VERY CPU intensive for some reason, so many times I end up just rendering.
If you have an SRT file you’d like me to import into AE for you, I can do one. Give me a ring through the contact for on my website: https://www.storytellersink.net.

Shaming me for not saving is not what I was looking for. You have been absolutely unhelpful. I was not coming on here to be called unprofessional or lectured.
I came here looking for technical help in trying to make sure that a feature of this product worked properly.
I save often. In fact, I only lost about an hour of work with this problem. Because I am a professional and I save often.
If all you want to do on these message boards is make yourself feel good by berating others, when they ask simple questions, then please leave. The internet doesn’t need you. This community doesn’t need you.
Anyone else who has an idea about how to ensure the autosave works correctly, please let me know.

I can’t speak to your specific situation, but I have found a couple of other situations in which CC2014 is less stable than CC. Relinking files is another. So, perhaps just fill out a big form and wait… :-/

Filmconvert is a great, excellent program to get you started.
Then, add some scratches to taste.
Agreed – 16mm could mean anything from like Grand Bhudapest Hotel (looks incredible) to my freshman year NYU projects (very bad).
