I’m not really sure what this statement means. That’s as big as you can get the final output? If it’s sufficient quality what difference does it make? Bigger doesn’t mean better.
Not to be pedantic here, but you’re just dealing with a basic equation. You’re variables are data rate (audio and video) and duration (length of video). That will determine the size of your m2v. You can figure this out by doing the math for your overall data rate and the length of your video. The software won’t do it for you.
The max data rate a SD-DVD can handle is 9Mbps. Some older DVD players will choke on that data rate. So I’d call that more a theoretical max than a practical max. I’d venture a more conservative 7-8Mbps if you want your DVD to play on most (all?) DVD players.

I haven’t heard of this before. It might time to go thermonuclear on your hard drive and do a complete system wipe. You should backup any important mp3, documents, movies, etc. before proceeding.
*****This will completely format your hard drive and erase everything*****
(1) Restart machine using your install CD (hold down the “C” key on your keyboard until you see the Apple logo. This will force the machine to start from the disc.
(2) Once inside the installer launch Disk Utility
(3) From Disk Utility you can then format your boot drive
(4) Re-install OS
(5) Re-install apps
(6) Get back to workThis is a drastic step, but since you’ve been posting this same problem for days and seemingly have no resolution. This may be your only course of action.

That’s correct. You can transcode the files to Apple ProRes using Adobe Media Encoder (similar to Compressor).

You can try Canon’s standalone app called “Canon XF Utility.” That may be able to read the card structure. I know it comes with the camera and I think you can download it from their site.
Or download the trial version of Adobe CS6. Premiere Pro and Prelude will deal with virtually any file format structure in tact or not.

What are the physical dimensions of the psd file? FCP doesn’t care about dpi (in video space dpi is largely irrelevant). All that matters is the actual size of the file (1280×720, 1920×1080, etc.). Make your psd file the size you need for your timeline (or bigger if you plan on scaling into it using the Motion tab).
If you have a 300 dpi file that is 320×180, all FCP sees is 320×180. Drop that in a 720 or 1080 timeline and it’ll look bad.

When this checkbox is enabled, Resolve conforms and processes all clips in the Timeline to play at the frame rate that’s selected in the “Calculate Timecode At” pop-up menu. For example, 23.98, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60 fps clips will all play at 24 fps if that’s what “Timecode calculated at” is set to in the Master Project Settings. How clips in mixed frame rate timelines are rendered out depends on whether the Render Settings are set to render individual source clips or one single clip. In Source order, all clips are rendered individually at their original frame rate. When you render the timeline as individual source clips, all clips are rendered individually at their original frame rate. If you select ‘single clip’, all clips are converted to the “Calculate Timecode At” frame rate and rendered as a single media file.
You must turn “Handle mixed frame rate material” on in the Project Settings before importing XML or AAF files using mixed frame rate clips. Otherwise, these projects will not conform correctly. However, because DPX files often either lack or have incorrect frame rate information in the header data, you may need to turn off this setting when conforming a project using image sequences to make sure these are not incorrectly interpreted.

Yep. Just did a project with this exact problem. Our solution was to commit to 1 frame rate. So if you’re going to 29.97 then 23.98 files need to be converted to 29.97, re-edited into the FCP timeline, and a XML sent to Resolve.
Basically, you’ll need to commit to whatever frame rate you want and bake that into the corresponding clips. Resolve doesn’t play well with mixed frame rate timelines.

I believe this is a limitation of HDV. Because when you shoot and hit start/stop record on your camera the codec has to close out that GOP (because it’s not an I-frame based codec). Remember HDV works by extrapolating data from set points within a given GOP (Group of Pictures). Sony used 15 frames, JVC 12 (some companies used 6 I believe too). So every 15th frame would be an I frame within the camera. The other frames in between would either look forwards or backwards to the surrounding I frame in order to extrapolate the motion. That’s why your able to fit HD onto a miniDV tape @ 25Mbps….cause you’re throwing away a lot of data and extrapolating the rest. Brilliant on one hand, and a complete PITA on the other! 😉
So when you import via your NLE each time you hit start/stop on your camera it makes that a new file because it has to close out the GOP structure. FCP in the User Preferences has a box for “On Timecode Break: Make New Clip” which is your best option. The others are Abort capture or warn after capture.

Just a FYI – MKV isn’t supported natively on a Mac or any iProduct. A Mac user will need to download a separate app to handle a MKV file (asking the end user to do more).
Not sure what your target audience or intended delivery arena is. h.264 just works on any platform/browser.
Bret – I think you’re referring to a mp4 (using the h.264 codec) being played within a Flash player. In that model the video file is h.264 but the player around the video is Flash coded. That’s how we used to role (YouTube did this for a time as well – now it’s moving more towards HTML5 so you don’t need the Flash plugin). That’s different than a straight up flv file.

I doubt that you’ll be able to download a trial version of 2+ year old software. And software that Adobe has effectively stopped supporting (i.e.patches, etc.). However, you can still purchase CS5 through various websites. Purchasing it is probably your only legal route to gain access to this software.
