do you always format cards after moving content to the computer? i always do and i have not had an issue as you say. what is the ref of your cards? i also use 32GB cards.

Have you installed the latest firmware upgrade?

Can VLC at least preview the MXF file?

I believe there is inside the XF a way to check files for consistency but im not 100% sure

For all of us who live from this, i recommend having a software that can take the single mxf file and convert it to prores or what ever we need. it is no good to keep stuck just to FCP to ingest files.

Hi Nick, i found the right way just as you said, its a very nice lens i feel it far superior from any other similar camcorders.

The other day i was shooting at the moon and i found that when in special recording as a time lapse way, it is not possible to use auto iris feature, i had to do manual and i didnt like manual correcting, does not look good.

Im unsure about macro filters and what do they do, please let me know if you have any experience with it

If shooting for fun or for the internet i would still use it but if you want to make money from it, you are lacking the power of recent technology.

DVX100 is a warhorse but it is old. i think you should start looking for some new equipment, dont let yourself run out of date.

  • Hi im about to buy the kensington´s expert but from what ive heard from Walter i will try the logitech´s optical trackman. i will also look for some kind of keyboard with less but bigger keys and use some software ive already found, to map usual FC keys to the right hand keyboard so make a better use of the tools, im in the way for building a better keyboard so ill break some keyboards and construct what it seems to be a better interface, ill let you know.

thanks for the inputs i hope some one else can feed the thread

Hi Shaun, did you format the card before start recording? it is always a good practice to do. Do you have issues with card B? Can you see any information related to the Card A? Just to be sure, the card ins write protected, right?

If you cant see the card from a computer, try first from a PC windows the try from a MAC sometimes it works and you get able to see content.

I wait for your answer to continue.

Hi, yap its not to speculate but we need to begin to look somewhere else, surely i will not wait until xsan and macos server disappear to start a new road.

i hope i would cancel as you did, we just recently bought 4 promises and 8 xserves, it does not feel good. raid is gone, xserve gone, probably xsan and mac server will. you can see how much apple has moved to consumer side.

by the way, if you have some promise boxes, which hardware could replace xserves for afp sharing?

Hi try turning off camcorder, take off the cards and then press the small reset hole found in the keyboard with a clip, then turn on the camcorder and release the reset pin. insert the insane card and try to repair the media by doing the procedure found in the manual, it is very easy. i guess it is: menu, manage media and then repair media files.

if it doesnt work, copy the whole card to a folder in a computer to have a back up, and try to get back files by using a third party mts converter. maybe telestream´s or voltaic, ive heard those are good.

dont forget to use a fast enough SDHC card, i always use cat 6 or higher and use same brand approved SDHC cards.

October 27, 2010 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Buying Advice – Sony NXCam

Hi William, i recently got 4 units of the NX5 camcorder and soon will have 10 or 12 more. i´ve heard about some troubling when in middle of record but most of all it has to do with improper card formatting or not formatting at all for a new project, mainly when the recording format has been changed and there are still some clips in the cards.

i can say that its a nice machine, battery is long lasting, lens is wide enough. unfortunately it lacks histogram, time lapse option and what i really miss is the shot transition feature that you one find in other sony camcorders. viewfinder is touchscreen but i prefer to use the buttons. usually i prefer to record in 16GB sdhc cards because in case of trouble or if one get lost i just loose part of the job, not a big portion as it would happen in bigger cards, aside 16GB are cheaper than 32GB.

the NXcam is a complete camcorder for the semi pro user. its lacks are far compensated by the ease of use, the fast editing workflow and the options you have for competitive projects.

actually there are some camcorders like HMC-150 which was one of the choices for me. now you can find the new Canon that records CF cards. i can say from canon that the optics are far good, and the image quality is top, but canon has taken too much time in turning to solid state and one can find that inside the company there is a long way between thinking and doing, same thinking can be applied to solve customer issues.

few months ago i was like you, comparing all option, i made a deep research to find that NX5 was the right choice for me, then after i used for a couple of monts i got another 10 units. 🙂

    regards

    Rodrigo
