Hi Bob, you hit the nail with the IT thing, i’m about to get a firegun but I would need a lot of bullets. This kind of purchases walk through a very long way because of the money amount, and IT guys get involved because they “know” about bandwidth and networks. dellguys say they have deployed post environments with the software we use to deal with but I don’t trust them not a whit. the thing here is they have a salesforce way more powerful than a pure video solution vendor so managers in my company start getting haunted by their songs.

At the end it becomes a confronting between a lot of IT people and me. they’re going trough so many aspects maybe 100 points to be evaluated that I know it becomes a random selection: the worst solution could win in spite of having a low score.

I have plenty of reasons not to select the big ones but maybe I need more ideas. this is a big deployment for a nas, nearly 130 concurrent video editing clients in a local video network including all the post production software you mentioned. your input is appreciated.

It´s between Quantum, Dell and GBlabs. I would like GBlabs but i have failed to get enough input from GBlabs users, have you tried them?

I will have to keep it running until november when we get our new NAS, as this is a big purchase. Actually we have an Xsan and one of the chassis failed and i need to share some folders using the FC infrastructure. It would be a mess to allow users to reach a volume using smb protocol and other volume using the xsan.

I guess the file sharing you´re talking about is using smb or afp.

  • I was expecting nice news from NAB but i got different, of course not official but i have been told that in no way AS will come back. I hope this is not true, but it would make sense according to your words Ian.

  • Hi Phil, keep us updated if you get any other related info there @NAB

  • I have also received the same information, i hope they come back soon. by the way, would any of you keep buying from AS?

So what for now? i was just about days to expand my actual AS system but… surely i wont pay for a quantum system and i will not bet for small companies. I guess i will be back to Promise i have an old Vtrak which have worked flawlessly since 5 years ago. About the speed comparison between promise and AS i can say that head to head, my old vtrack is faster than the 16x3GB AS. It was something that i found one day when placing a big cache for transcoding files.

Someone told that AS went to Rorke data im having a look at their Galaxy hardware, it seems like prices are similar.

have anyone worked with Rorke? how about service and customer care?

Thats sure, but the specs for the camcorder allow to be between 0-40 C degrees so ill play a little with the temp and in a couple of weeks i will send the camcorder for repair.

Do you have an idea of what could be done to it if under warranty? is it possible that the lens become replaced?

It seems like your last post is troubled or something, i just couldn’t reply to it.

I wanted to use auto iris because the night was very cloudy and the exposure went from extreme to extreme so i couldn’t get proper control of it. I guess it is a trade off and its not possible to go from clear sky to complete cloud.

Hi Nick i hope you can solve this pretty soon. I have had success with Telestream´s Episode Encoder, this software is not cheap but it worths the price, is really good and quality the same or better than FCP.

I dont know if you are working on FCP7 or FCP6, ive had some issues with FCP6 and this digital workflow.

Ive had trouble with other camcorders when i just delete clips instead formatting the cards, i thought it was not necessary to format, but once i had a headache i format always.

I always do the same as you do (cut some at the beginning and at the end) i try to export and bring the same format i use in the capture scratch folder. Im not converting to prores because that is a lot of space in HDD. i guess it is converted to mov xdcamex hq and thats what i like.

To format go tho the bottom icon in the menu (maybe a tool icon) and then you will find it.
