You could reduce the data rate somewhat to make a smaller file that will fit on the DVD. Probably wouldn’t take much – maybe 10% and it’s doubtful anyone will notice the quality hit. . You could do this in Compressor or MPEG Streamclip., just to name two.
Or if they have a Blu-Ray player and you have a burner, you could go that route.

Forgot about your transcode question. I think the answer is yes. If you go to your event, you’ll find a transcoded media folder. In that, you should find whatever PR files were created.

For me 10.0.6 has not been as stable as 10.0.5, but not so extreme as to cause me to roll back.
If you have legacy FCP on the same system, you might want to check this out. https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4722?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you experience repeat crashes trashing preferences is a good first step. https://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
When I’ve experienced project-specific problems, I’ve sometimes been able to work through them out by duplicating the project and pasting in the original TL. Also trashing the render files, which you can do from within FCP.
So far haven’t experienced corrupted clips from crashes…been lucky.

October 24, 2012 at 6:14 pm in reply to: m2v from compressor BluRay set up is an “invalid file”?I think it’s the non-sttandard (for Blu Ray) size that has Compressor upset. Try re-sizing to 1920X1080 with padding and select generic usage in ProRes. Assuming it outputs correctly, then try a Blu Ray job.

October 21, 2012 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Software and Settings for Batch Converting Still Image Files?Photoshop would be preferable, but if you don’t want to spend the bucks, Preview will do batch resize. If you use it, duplicate your originals before you resize.

It’s been a while since I used Elements, but I was pretty sure that it can save as PNG. A search confirmed that it can. (So can Preview, BTW.) But I agree that FCPX will be quite OK with JPEGs.
Here is a short article on batch resizing in PSE that may be helpful. https://digital-photography-school.com/batch-processing-in-photoshop-elements.

August 8, 2012 at 1:18 pm in reply to: aspect ratio preservation of photo slide show using compressor 3.5.3You didn’t mention how your friend is creating the slide show. If it is in an NLE like FCP, the way a still image will be displayed depends on the sequence aspect ratio…and whether the editor decides to transform it (say, by zooming to fill out the screen).
Without transforming, a 6×4 image would be expected to display pillar-boxed in a 16X9 sequence and letter-boxed in a 4×3 sequence.
When you bring that into Compressor, it will “see” the input file as either a 16:9 or 4:3…not the image and black bars separately. Its output file would display on a TV screen accordingly…that is with the 6X4 photo within either frame size and with vertical or horizontal black bars.

Well, I did some more tests this morning and was able to some other legacy templates to work – more or less Ok – after publishing from Motion 5. At least they didn’t crash FCPX.
The templates that seem to cause X indigestion were all based on various versions of Basic White. Short term, I’ll work around the problem within FCS; longer term, I’ll replace them with something new. Time to update them anyway.
