I hate questions as answers but more info is needed as to the media creation process. As stated in theory E=MC 2 the same principal applies here. Both Flash and After Effects can use either raster or vector images to generate a presentation / animation. If the content used to create the animation is of a vector method, the file can be enlarged/ expanded to the limit of the hardware while retaining color sharpness and detail. Vector artwork is scaled up or down via mathematical means and as such will retain it’s quality. Conversely when scaled up or down raster images are squeezed or stretched to fit inside the new dimensions. The results will show blocking and stair stepping on the edges similar to early video games. Also resizing raster images needs to be done correctly as to avoid partial pixels which will degrade detail, sharpness and color information. On smaller screens this may not be apparent but when projected onto a large surface it will be plainly visible and the need for output specs become a mute point for this is the stage where input = output or E=MC2 . I’m afraid that input is paramount. One answer may be to test, test and test. Take a handful of finished frames and project them then sit and decide which way to take the project. The show has to dazzle and amaze the crowd. Good will not suffice, it needs to be the best ever. Those are my thoughts / opinions and like butt holes, everybody has one.

September 20, 2015 at 2:23 am in reply to: Making a Digital clock with a specific time for Sony Vegas 12Hi, it’s not really all that difficult and takes 5 minutes or less to create a veg file to import into a project. That is about the only way i can think of doing it. If you find something better please share. Glad I could offer some moral support.

Perhaps if one uses the proper approach and listens to the author of the desired softwares, one might clue in that $10.00 is not too much to ask for such a timesaving script. Some peoples kids, I tell ya 🙁

September 19, 2015 at 4:10 pm in reply to: Hardware requirements: 4k video for full-dome (planetarium) editingOk first thing we need to know is which codec is this 4k recorded in. I have no problems with the GH4 Codec or even Shogun ProRes 4:2:2 HQ. There are other codecs that do not play as nice with my modest hardware.

1) Create new Video track. Insert Empty event in new track. Place the timecode generator on the empty event then begin the video clip at the desired time i.e 05:21:34 or 21:01:19, etc.
2) Create a veg with the timecode generator save it as some_file_name.veg import the some_file_name.veg into the project place it on a new layer. Alt click and drag left or right to adjust to the desired time. Be aware that a timecode of 05:21:34 will only be generated if the framerate is above 33 fps.

I agree with John, the fact is that an editor needs to know more than one app to make it in this day and age and it’s best to learn Final cut and Avid. It is not that complex for the principles of editing or story telling remain the same no matter what knife or razor used to cut the film. If the intent is to truly teach or get in some practice then like a good mentor the hard lessons need to be taught and learned listwise we do a disservice to the apprentice and all who look to the apprentice as a learned and practice professional.
I have done many round trips with Resolve from all NLE that can export an intermediate language with varying success. None are perfect transfers and generally allow only for simple cutting. All effects are lost and audio returns haphazard results at best.

[John Rofrano] “You want your audience concentrating on the pictures not your editing.”
On this point I agree with John. Consider that editing is a violent act. To suddenly appear at a different location or pov without physically moving the body is unnatural. It is disturbing and will jar the viewer out of the fantasy. If the intent is to draw attention to the editor, to pull viewers out of the experience then by all means go ahead and use all the transitions available on the edit system. The best edits are the ones that the viewer does not notice.
