What resolution is the preview window set to?

Ok DPI means dots per inch it is a printing specification. But before we get into all that, may I inquire as to when or where does this pixilation occur? In other words at which stage does pixelation become apparent? Is it present in the viewer or does it not show up until rendered?

I believe Steve asked what dimensions and dpi is exported from photoshop. Also need to know the file type.

There are more places to add effects. So things are even more confusing. Effects can be added to the clip in the project window.
Effects can be added at the track level either to the left or right of the default composite. Depending on which side of the composite the effects are on will result in the effects to be applied to the track or to any children of the track.Speaking of track in the compose section (green filmstrip with an a in a square to the right of the track volume) in the dropdown menu choose custom and apply effect there. And you’ve already mentioned the event and the preview window.Placing effects on the preview window assigns the effect(s) to the entire timeline.
For resizing your image, Vegas does that automatically but this can be disabled in the pan/crop section. In short the whole chain has more variants than appear on the surface.There are tutorials at https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/training/vegaspro/videos

You are most welcome, I have made a new version with some important info or say quirks about keyframes in Vegas so If you watch again and think it’s different then you are correct. If I left something out let me know and I will address it. Also I think I pronounced your name correctly this time. 😉 I think.

Have a look at the Vegas preferences panel and determine the audio input/ recording routing. There might be a clue in there. Another place to check is in the BMD control panel be certain that audio in is set properly. As to VLC Player running the file flawlessly, it must be understood that VLC comes with it’s own internal codec pack which is not accessible to other programs. So since the file plays properly in the enclosed environment of VLC yet does not work outside of VLC might indicate that the codec is not installed on the machine. So the question is if the BMD codec is installed or installed correctly. To test this open the file in Quicktime. If the BMD codec is not installed correctly quicktime will not play the file.

I agree with Aaron Star and would take it a step farther and have an export of the original file without the alpha info thereby reducing the filesize and decoding requirements. For that matter if the resulting file(s) is to be a png sequence, unless further compositing is required, I am confused as to the need for editing in any nle for the piece can be finished in Flash or After Effects.
