[Damian O’Neill] “Does this new Prores Proxy codec mean that I can use the traditional offline/online workflow on FCP?”

    Yes.

[Damian O’Neill] “And does it also mean that I can ingest offline material at the same sort of speeds (15-20x real time)? “

That depends on what format you’re shooting. Tape or digital formats. You’re not likely to see import at 15-20x though.

Another cool thing is the number of multi-cameras you can edit with in real-time increases with ProRes Proxy.

[Hector berrebi] “next AjA Ki-Pro update”

Would have to go over 3Gb SDI. But that would be very, very cool if it did support ProRes4444.

  • The core competency of FCS3 is clearly editing and finishing. If you want FCS3 to do more, then look at buying something else. I was hoping for Blu-Ray authoring too, but it didn’t happen. So does it mean that I’m going to stop using FCS3? No. There’s more reason to edit with FCS3 then there has ever been.

  • While I do wish that the FCP upgrade had more features, I think you’re over reacting a little. FCP is a great product and continues to get better. I don’t think there is much that they could add to it that would help me become a more creative editor. There are some things that I’d like to see change, but I quite excited about how the new update is going to completely change our workflows.

Really, this update has moved FCP to being a more professional grade application than any other update in the past. They’ve even passed AVID with ProRes4444.

[Shane Ross] “If people aren’t excited about this…where are their heads? “

Obviously they’re really excited to watch their new project on Blu-Ray (at home because there is hardly anywhere else they’ll watch it)!

Thanks for the moral support Shane! I’m glad I’m not alone with my own excitement!

If the frame rate is 23.98, then it will be progressive. If it is 29.97, then change the field dominance none.

  • Right in the same price range as the ES Pro is the CalDigit HDElement. They’re essentially the same technology, but right now, CalDigit is giving away a 3TB VR drive with each HDElement. CalDigit is a great company too. (not that G-Technology isn’t!)

Like Shane said, definitely get a Mac Pro. Doesn’t have to be the best Mac Pro, but I would suggest getting an 8-core version.

I don’t know of anyway to make FCP just capture one live frame through Log and Capture.

July 16, 2009 at 4:33 pm in reply to: audio to sound like loud speaker?

You’d probably be better off posting in an audio forum, but if I where trying to make that fx, I’d try something like this:

Loud speakers often distort and don’t have much dynamic range. They also will echo a little depending on the environment.

So I would apply an eq filter and turn down the low and high range.

Then you might trying to add some reverb or echo (but just a little bit). If you want to try to distort the audio too by adding a compressor/limiter to make it clip, then turn down the audio levels. Try these settings:

Using these settings, this is what I came up with:

    145_loudspeaker.mov.zip
