How or what effects can you apply to audio to make it sound like its coming through a loud speaker or intercom? I have a music track that I want to sound like its coming from a speaker to really sell a shot.

I’ve also posted this question in the STP forum cause I’m sure you can do this in both apps but not sure how or which is better to pull this off. Any thoughts or ideas?

You’d probably be better off posting in an audio forum, but if I where trying to make that fx, I’d try something like this:

Loud speakers often distort and don’t have much dynamic range. They also will echo a little depending on the environment.

So I would apply an eq filter and turn down the low and high range.

Then you might trying to add some reverb or echo (but just a little bit). If you want to try to distort the audio too by adding a compressor/limiter to make it clip, then turn down the audio levels. Try these settings:

Using these settings, this is what I came up with:

Russ, thanks man. Appreciate you taking the time to share an example. This will work beautifully. I started playing around with EQ settings myself and just couldn’t get it right. I don’t know enough about audio just yet. Thanks for the screen shots too. They’ll be handy.

    Nice work, Russell.

Me, I’d probably pump the audio through some cheap speakers and re-record it with a cheap mic. The problem I have with audio filtering is it usually sounds fake because I am not adept with the controls. And the client gets too picky with all of the sliders and coloration filters that are available in FCP or STP. If I record it, the effect is genuine, the choices are limited, and the project moves along.
