When I remove the text file and the CONTENTS folder is all that remains, it still imports into FCP fine. What folders/files do you have from the firestore?

Well evidently nobody help him there and I sure didn’t help him by directing him to a place where nobody helped him to start with.

Sorry wizz_kydd. When I get a second I try to run a test to see if I can help.

    Good luck!

What ever happened to the P2 2-slot reader that had Firewire 800, Firewire 400, and USB on it that I say at NAB last year? Is that ever going to come out?

I’d suggest at least Firewire800 with a two drive RAID 0. It should be fast enough most of time. (you might drop some frames here and there depending on how many streams you’re trying to play back.)

I like Other World Computing drives.

What type of HD? 720/24P, 1080/60i, DVCPROHD?

What the other guys have said is great advice. I might add that it depends on the resolution and frame rate because DVCPROHD can range from around 6MB/sec to around 16MB/sec.

720/24P is around 6MB/sec and I’ve edited it over Firewire 400 without a problem. (Firewire 400 is usually capable of about 30-40MB/sec.) It’s not ideal, but should work (most of the time.)

If you’re editing 720/60P or 1080i 29.97, that’s closer to 16MB/sec. Firewire 400 will start to choke with it. I’d suggest at least Firewire 800 or faster for that (even Firewire 800 will start to choke depending on how many streams of video you’re trying to play back.)

I just tried it in compressor. It coverted it from 60P to 30P. It removed every other frame. I tried it in AE and it was the same result. This might be satisfactory for you.

One potential issue with this might be that it deleted every other frame of motion instead of using the first frame for the first field and the second frame for the second field, creating one frame for every two progressive frames. This might make the motion smoother, but I’m not sure. I couldn’t figure out a way to compare the two.

So in 60P, if you have a graphic that travels from one side of the screen to the other over three frames, on the first frame it will be on the right side of the screen, the second frame will be in the middle, and the third on the left side.

When converted to 30P the graphic on the first frame will be on the right side of the screen and on the second frame the graphic will travel to the left side of the screen, deleting the graphic in the middle.

Is this bad? Maybe. It might look better if it were 60i, but I haven’t figured out how to convert 60P to 60i. Any ideas anyone?

    I hope you like 30P.
