Do you remember my post about different options of playing back HD? Namely using a Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or even an Apple TV? Do you have access to any of these?
NOTE: If you use an Apple TV you’ll have to convert your project to 23.98fps because the max HD file it will playback is 1280×720 24P.
Have you tried using a DVD player with and HDMI port? They upconvert SD DVDs on the fly and should look a lot better than letting the TV do it.

That’s cool if it does that. I’ll look into it a little more. Honestly, I don’t care too much though because when we really care about the quality of the encoding, we send it to someone that specializes in DVD encoding and that has software far superior to Compressor. So when I make DVDs, I’m fine with “good enough” or I send it to our specialist.
Elliot, if you want the best encoding you can get, higher someone else. We use Rivetal. http://www.rivetal.com. You could hire them to do it and depending on how you get them the file, they could still make your deadline.
If you decide to call them, ask for Jason and tell him you where talking with me about the whole thing. He might give you a better deal if you’re not a complete stranger.

well sending what you have to another compressed codec just to compress it again to m2v just doesn’t make sense to me.
Did you try the 4:1:1 color smoothing filter in FCP?

What codec is the 13GB file? DV from your timeline?
The maximum bit rate for a m2v on a DVD is 8Mbs. To be safe I never go over 7.5Mbs because of playback issues on DVD players.
I know that several people have suggested that it is better to export your file from a FCP timeline, then compress it. At first I thought it was only a time savings. Then I remembered that the advantage of sending the file from your FCP timeline to compressor is that is will put compression markers at every edit to let compressor know that the picture it changing. In all honesty though, you’re probably won’t notice a big difference, but you might be able to tell if you look really really really close.
You might try adding the 4:1:1 color smoothing filter in FCP to the file before you compress it. From what I’ve seen, it looks like that could help smooth out some of the artifacts that you’re having.

You need to make sure that your pixels match your footage. Examples, DV, DV50, Uncompressed SD all have non-square pixels (NTSC-CCIR 601/DV). HD uncompressed has square pixels. If you’re doing graphics in other programs, you to make sure you keep the pixel Aspect Ratio the same as your footage.
If you’re going to do to broadcast then you’ll have to make a master tape which means that it will use it’s own pixel aspect ratio.
If you have any question about what pixel aspect ratio your footage is, just scroll in the browser until you see the pixlel aspect ratio column.
