You can extract the timecode from the original clip and add it to another movie using QT pro. That could be pretty helpful.

The IO HD is quite large though so you’ll need large case to carry everything.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a dream come true. The biggest advantage that it has timecode in and out now! Finally!!!!!
You’ll want to use eSATA for the drives so it doesn’t interfere with the FW800 bus that connects to the IO HD.

FC Server is really, really new. There are going to be a lot of really cool features for people who acutally have to manage media. It’s going to be a learning process for both Apple and us, but it even at that, it’s going to help me spend less time managing media and more time editing. (That’s only because it will be a lot easier for me to get others to manage that instead, not that the time is going to go away.)

It seems silly to mention, but at the risk of seeming elementary, did you render your sequence after you brought the LiveType clip in?
Go to Sequence – Render All and make sure every option has a check mark by it.
Then select something in your sequence and select Sequence – Render All – Both.
Just thought I’d check.

So I’ve been spending a lot of time in AE recently (a couple of weeks straight). Now I come back into FCP and I want to move the timeline quickly to a certain point.
What do you do in AE? Hold down the spacebar and drag. So what do I try in FCP, the same thing!!! And it doesn’t work. I want it to have the same functionality in FCP as it does in AE. Even if it is still the “h” key. I just want it so when I press it down it works and when I let go, it doesn’t.
It’s such a nice feature in AE instead of having to push two keys. (I’m a spoiled, keyboard shortcut brat arent’ I).

I had an editor that wanted to learn more keyboard short cuts, so we started quizing each other. The goal was to stump each other on the keyboard short cut list that comes with FCP.
You know in this industry, you can never stop studying. Even then, someone will always know more than you.

First off, I pretty much rely on After Effects for graphics, not FCP. The results are great that way. While I haven’t really latched on to Motion yet, that would also be a great option for titles.
Do the titles that you’re bringing in have straight or premultilpied alphas? I would suggest only using straight as premultilpied often ands black, jaged thingers around the alpha.
As far a slo-mo goes, I suggest once again AE 7 or Shake. I’ve had some really, really great results with Shake sometimes, other times I’ve accepted that some footage was never meant to be slowed down.

If it ends up getting changed in FCP version 12.1, then you can curse me the rest of your days Walter.
Until then, I’ll just have to deal with it. Heaven knows I spend a lot more time complaining about something like this than I do actually changing the number from 10 to 1.6.

PS What I’d really like is to have a text file that I open and change my preferences. Not only for this, but a lot of other things like interface colors/brightness, default columns that show, etc.
