If have both Blackmagic and AJA products in our facility. I’ve grown to love the tech support of AJA. For Blackmagic, it’s been almost non-existant (but I still have their cards that I got for cheep off ebay!)
You really need to determine what connections you need. Do you need to digitize component video? Do you really need HDSDI for your clients? What type of video monitor will you be using and how will it connect to the card? How will you be monitoring the audio, analog or digital?
From the sound of it, the Kona LH might be a great fit for you, but you really need to go through your whole workflow to make that decision.

Using the slate, it’s really easy to just sync up the video using the audio waveform.
To marry audio to a clip, set an in point on both clips where slate sounds, select both the audio and the clip in the browser, select modify – merge clips. Use the merge using in point. That will sync both clips at the in point of each clip.
It would probably be easier to deal with all of the clips if each of the takes was a separate file. If you have the telecine flex file from the film transfer, that can be a great way of digitizing the video clips.

What kind of RAM do you have in your machine?
Your machine seems abnomally unreliable. It quite possiblely be mid grade RAM that’s causing your issues. What brand is it and where did you get it?

We have both cards running in different systems connected by a SAN. We haven’t had any codec incompatability issues. We can work on a project regardless of which system we have available.
We use DV, DVCPRO50, DVCPROHD, Uncompressed 8-bit and 10-bit codecs.
I’m not sure how ProRes will work.

I would suggest the Blackmagic Intensity cards. The you could purchase consumer HDTVs that you like and connect it directly over HDMI. They’re inexpensive cards which is nice.
I would describe your color correcting needs as non-crucial. With a little testing, you’ll be able to make decent decisions with this set up.

What video monitor are you going to be using? Are you going to be color correcting?

I would probably just select all of the clips in the browser and use the media manager to recompress the clips to DVCPRO. This will maintain all of the original timecode and clip metadata.

You might try rendering in sections incase there is a corrupt clip or a clip/effect combination that causing the problem.
When I have a big show like that, I render in sections and then save after each section is done rendering. It helps me track down the root of the problem.
