  • Anyone who has not checked out Serious Magic’s DV rack (which will be HVX compatible any day now) is missing out on the killer solution for about 5 of the short comings of this camera. A killer calibrated monitor (flip-able for the prime lens mounts), meters up the wazoo, recording right to internal or external hardisk where you can name the clips, etc etc. all operating on a fast laptop, hence portable. All of this including a fast PC for less than the cost of a firestore. No brainer. Check it out and wait for the release.

Everybody should consider what Serious Magic is about to unleash with their HVX200 version of DV Rack. For the cost of one firestore you can buy a hugely powerful PC laptop AND their software. This gives you a gorgeous, calibrated monitor and every scope under the sun, AND it records your clips in one of about six formats to either internal or external hard drives. Features include zooming, split screen, two zebras (light and dark), flip screen for prime lenses, naming clips, and audio waveform monitors just for starters. I could go on and on because this is the greatest no brainer in a landscape that is usually full of brain scratchers. It’s currently in late Beta stages. Truly awesome.

Incredible work. I hope others will show their appreciation. I have myself made some similar rigs such as your kinosquare and camera shakers (which can add stunning realism and style to cgi) but all of these tools are simple and every day useful. As if I need more reason to switch to C4D from lightwave…

    Thanks,
    Devin

Thanks simon, but I understand that. I don’t just mean camera movements, just the general working scale of everything–including object nudging, or like having the camera or light placeholder “object” in the editor view take up your whole set such that its difficult to see even where it is placed. I’m just wondering how to scale the working environment down altogether, if its possible..

Yeah it helps a lot to set a falloff, but seems like it shouldn’t have one if its simulating sunlight, but it gets the job done for a room 🙂
