I am still having a huge problem getting the shots from my S xS cards to show up in my AVID. Here is my question: when I drag the BPAV folder from the EX-1 camera onto the Harddrive of the AVID computer, where do I put the folder??? Someone said to put the BPAV folder into folders named Card 1 and Card 2, etc. But where do I put them? Inside the Avid Media Files folder??? Just into the Harddrive in general? Neither place seems to work. When I try to link using the Link to Volume command or the Link to Files command, it does not allow me to do so..
I need a simple — very simple — step by step description of how to go about getting footage from the EX-1 camera (S x S cards) into the AVID. Could someone please help with that????
I (we) would be sooooo grateful!

Is it important that the BPAV folders continue to be named BPAV?

Thank you, Shane, that is very helpful. A follow-up question: Will the media that I create and give to my assistant editor be so altered that I cannot then use it myself to make changes to what she does? That is, will the shots no longer be open-able by my AVID in my original project?
My goal would be to make files that could be interchangeable, back and forth between our two AVIDs….
Would the method that you just described work in that way?Never Give Up

So all the transferring of files takes place from within the AVID program itself? I was trying to transfer the files from the Desktop. No one has made it clear to me about that yet.

Se still can’t get it to work.
Let me go back and ask a more basic question. If I want to transfer some of my AVID media files to another editor who is also working with an AVID, how would I do that? Could you outline the process for me? How do I get my files out to her? And how does she put them into her AVID?
Thanks for your help!!!

Thanks for the reply Shane! Here’s my follow up question: How does one find the “root level” of the drive?
I think that what she has been trying is to work with the Media Files on her portable Hard Drive. Clearly that is not going to be a “Root Level” of a drive, right? I am thinking that my asst editor is going to need to transfer all the media files over to an internal harddrive on the computer, right? And if so, where does she put them? Where is the root level?
Perhaps she should install another internal hard drive into her computer and make that the “root level” somehow??
Thanks for helping us though this!

Thanks Andy,
What you suggested worked very well — up to a point. I managed to get all the footage into one bin in the AVID project that I am working on. And I can edit with them fine. However, all of the clips are yellowish in tint, which I believe means that they are not yet in AVID storage? What would be the next step? I have tried relink, and it hasn’t worked yet. There must be some tool that I am overlooking?
Also, all of the long takes that I shot, and it was an interview so there are several long ones, the long takes will play the sound but not the picture until I make subclips of them. What is that about?
Thanks so much for your assitance so far. I was tearing my hair out and couldn’t find any documentation that helped!

Further along now…. I have discovered that I can get the clips from the EX1 to show up in a bin on my AVID in glorious HD. Now I am confused about where to find the FAM transfer command/tool. Any answers out there? Thanks.

August 13, 2010 at 3:00 pm in reply to: Problems linking XDCAM EX footage to Avid MC 5.0 with AMAHI,
I am having similar problems with MC 4.0, but I am assuming that I just don’t know what I am doing. It’s my first time to shoot with an EX1. My AVID recognizes the EX! card and shows the scenes on the screen. But I don’t know how to use the FAM tranfer, and have no clue where to find it! Are your clips showing up in a bin yet? Any idea where to activate the FAM transfer tool?
Thanks and Good Luck. Ross SpearsNever Give Up

Thanks for the reply. I loaded the OMF2 from the AVID MC 7.1 into my Avid Express, where it plays perfectly fine, and then I did an export/coonsioldiation from that using OMF2. My mixer loaded it just fine, but it shows the same problems with the edits not doing their job. Right now I am making another OMF2 from the Avid Express, but this time with NO HANDLES. Perhaps that will do the trick?
So you think the MC 7.1 is the culprit? If I upgrade to 7.2, will it play all my digitized material? I have hour and Hours and hours in this project — a mini-series.
Thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate it!
