  • Second question to Pat: In previous work I used AMA to link with footage and then used to Transcode the footage. Is this the same process? What is Frame Flex anyway?

    Thanks, Ross Spears

  • Dear Pat,

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I do not see AMA link on any of my menus. Where is it? I am using MC 8.8.5.

  • Thanks, Pat, it worked! I created the custom raster, but now there is another problem. When I import an image into it, the result is totally out of focus. Every inch of the image is out of focus. What am I doing wrong??? The images that I am importing are very sharp to begin with. They are mostly PNG images, some are jpeg. I can import these images into an older MC project, but they are stretched in awkward ways (different raster).

    Thanks, Ross

Thanks for the response. II am using AVID MC 8.8.5. Is that what you worked with?

Also, I can render effects, such as dissolves and fades, IF I render them at the time of creation. But not later on. Somehow the footage is not being noticed. Who should I ask?

    Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay. I have been on the road.

Thanks for the suggestion, but YES the tracks those effects are on are both selected! I get no response when I select “Render In to Out.” What else to try?

Thanks Michael! 145 sounds fine. Sorry for my delay in reply — I have been sick. Here’s my next question: How do I transcode all this material? It’s been a long time since I did it, and at that time I was using MC 4.5. Thanks for your help!!

    Thanks, Michael,

I will not be relinking to original. I hope to make it into a HD show that is consistent with PBS needs. The footage is being shot at 29.970. What codec for transcoding? And can I transcode a bunch of clips at the same time?

    It will NOT be 4K.

    Thanks so much!!!

Dear Shane, Thanks! To answer your question: I am NOT shooting 4K. But the camera is capable of it.

No, I have linked to the HD footage that I shot, which has no time code on it. Therefore, it really needs to be transcoded as soon as possible. I want to work with excellent looking footage. The film will be made for PBS distribution and also BluRays, etc. What do the different transcode possibilities mean? Which one should I use?

    Thanks so much!!

November 7, 2017 at 3:33 am in reply to: NEW AVID MEDIA COMPOSER for new project?

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your suggestions! Yes, I know how to transcode. Yes, I know what AMA is. and Yes, I have looked into and can afford to buy the enormous hard drives that you and Shane suggest.

But what I am wondering is if the RAM in the computer can be upgraded. If I buy a computer with 8 gigs, can I upgrade to 64 gigs?

    Thanks,
