You can use mocha to do a simple transform track by selecting only transform in the track tab. I would probably make a small shape for each hand. Most likely you will need to edit the track to either using AdjustTrack module or editing in within AE to get the look you are going for.

  • Is this happening on “all” your clips? I would recommend logging a case at Imagineer Systems’s support:

Without seeing the motion, it is difficult to advise. Are you sure that you need a 3D track? If you are getting a good track, possibly simply scale the text?

If you are getting a 3D solve in mocha Pro that is above 90%, than I would guess that your 3D world is not oriented well enough to track this back object. Once the world is oriented properly, you should be able to link the text to nulls and pull them in Z towards the camera.

Again, without seeing the motion, it is difficult to advise. There are some good tutorials for 3D solve found here:

One note, if you are always “adjusting every keyframe” in AdjustTrack, then your track was not done correctly. AdjustTrack should be used to correct drift or to fix extremely difficult tracks.

I could be wrong, but believe that that in the very latest update of AE CC, the 3D camera tracker has a ground plane tool.

Is the camera on a tripod? PTZ is only valid for Pan, Tilt, zoom where the camera is fixed. Otherwise you do need multi-planes selected for the other solving modes.

I would still recommend looking into the Orient World video for the ground plane.

Have you tried the AE camera tracker? Like I said, there are def shots that are more suitable for other trackers?

November 20, 2013 at 4:05 pm in reply to: Corner pining with mocha

The most common mistake here is that your insert later is not the same size as your comp. Make sure the insert is same size and if not, precomp it. The true test is to simply apply tracking data to a solid that is the comps size. If this does not lineup, than your issue is with the actual track.

also, mocha Import+ is not “necessary” for doing screen inserts. The track data can simply be applied to a layer. What mochaImport is useful for is to stabilize a comp, insert elements or do a fix and then remove the stabilization.

In general I would start by learning the workflow for applying a corner pin to a solid to make sure you understand the general workflow.

There are very many excellent tutorials on mochaImport found on Mamoworld’s site.

    Hope this helps.

    A few thoughts:

If the camera is moving, you need at least 2 surfaces tracked to get a 3D camera solve to work in mocha’s 3D solver.

Increase the % of pixels tracked parameter to get the best track.

Also – it sounds like the world is not oriented correctly for the 3D solve? You may want to look at some tutorials to make sure that your camera and objects are positioned in the right space.

    This is some good reference:
    https://aescripts.com/orient-world/

For 2D planar tracking, the blue surface is the ultimate reference for tracking quality.

For 3D solving, first you want to get good surface results than, mutli-select and hit 3D solve. You want to get a quality of at least 85 or higher.

This all said, as powerful as mocha’s planar tracker is, there are shots that are more appropriate for point or camera tracks. A chess board with only high contrast black & white is a good example as mocha tracks “texture” while other trackers use high contrast point.

    Best of luck,
    R

  • This is a very common mocha usage. You should not have an issue using the bundled mocha AE and After Effects to accomplish this effect.

BTW, mocha can export inverted corner pin or another option is the mochaImport+ script:

November 7, 2013 at 4:48 pm in reply to: Motion tracking and Plexus

If using mocha AE for this, I would recommend tracking with transform only as you probably want just x,y for the Plexus part. After you track, display the Surface (blue box) and scale and position it exactly to where you want. When exporting transform tracking data to AE, it will use the center of the Surface.

This should allow you paste the transform track from mocha AE to your Null and get something very accurate,

There is a tutorial that covers some of this, but I believe there are lots more ways to link Plexus to track data: https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/tracking-titles-with-mocha-ae-and-plexus

    Hope this helps.
