This was 4 years ago – hard to remember. Basically, I think that I created a folder with the offending plugins and kept them on the desktop to be used when and if I wanted to use them in my audio programs. I don’t remember if there was some method to stop them from being scanned by FCP, sorry. Also, I am about to install the latest version of FCP – very curious to see if this issue has been resolved …

I’m running a 2.5Ghz dual Mac with 6.5gigs of memory. Not sure which type of .mp4 it is but I belive it was based on using H264. Thanks.

Unfortunately that does not do the trick. These Wave plugiins are located in the Component file. Address is: HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components. And the difficult part is that I can remove the Waveshell plugin but that removes everything. There does not seem to be a way to remove just this particular plugin. All of Waves plugins and I have the Diamond bundle so there are quite a few, reside under the one heading of “WaveShell-AU_5.2.component” and “WaveShell-AU_5.0.1.component”. Thanks for the try. Any other ideas?

Sorry about not being more clear. I am running a Mac. This is in the Movie Info window: [ DV/DVCPRO – NTSC, 640 x 480, Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz FPS: 29.97 ] As far as what I want to do with it, the first pressing issue is just to be able to upload it to a .Mac site and have someone downlaod it. I’m not worried about streaming or anything like that just now. I will be shortly. Does that give you enough to work with? I own Compressor and Final Cut Studio. I also have Quicktime Pro 7 with the MPEG 2 option. I looked at QT but I cannot find a place to export or compress a file. Anyway, I know you gave me many options…but being more from the music side of things, it is a bit overwhelming. I’m just looking for a relatively simple, uncomplicated method to get this file compressed but still have it look and sound relatively good. Thanks.

Through some help from the Creative Cow web-site and some other discussion threads, I figured it out. The offending audio plug-ins were Amplitube and Reaktor and Reaktor5. All were in the HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components folder. I had rebuilt and repaired everything countless times so there truly was nothing left that was corrupt. It was just a matter of finding the incompatible components and placing them in another folder on my desktop, so I could access them again when I need to use them in my sequencer programs. Once I removed the offensive plugs, FCP went through everything else (still slowly) and approved them. FCP finally opened and on the consequent loads, everything happened much faster.

Someone (Apple?) needs to devise a way for audio components to reside in a folder and be flagged in such a way as to tell an App NOT to try to load those specific components. Like I said in my earlier post, Logic Pro and Digital Performer have no problem loading those components, only FCP. And, they’re not components that I would ever see myself using in FCP.

I hope this helps someone else avoid 3 days of frustration and no clear answers to be easily had.

I have read quite a few posts but haven’t found one that addresses my problem exactly. I am running FCP 4.5 I have not updated to Quicktime 7 yet so I am running Quictime Pro 6.5.2 I am on a G5 Dual 2.5MHz with 6.5 gigs of memory. I have lots of firewire drives attached to the system and the files I am working with are on those drives. This is the problem. I’m putting together a little montage and pulling in both video and still photos as well as music. I am working at 16bit 48K. All the video has come in via DVD’s The DVD’s were made by recording them on a Pioneer DVR-7000 recorder. They were then made into movies with a program called “Cinematize”. These are the video files I am working with. I have an Aurora Igniter X installed on this MAC for playback.
Problem is: the audio is drfiting away from the video as I play back my material. When these DVD’s are played they are perfect. When the Quicktime movies are played, they are perfect. It’s only after i put them in the timeline that the problem occurs. I’m not talking about anything except literally playing a 30 to 40 second cut from a longer (as much as 55 minutes) movie file. The audio sometimes plays fine and always begins in sync. It drifts as the file plays. If i stop the file for a moment and start it again it is in perfect syn from that point and then begins to drift again. I haven’t even tried to output it yet, this is all playback.
I have checked the settings and they all seem to say 48K and are 16 bit.

Any ideas? Help! Thanks.

Thanks. I just posted something on the Aurora forum. This really troubles me. Igniter does not Spit out DV files to my monitor, and as everything seems to be moving in that direction, this causes me concern. Aurora hasn’t updated ther drivers since October of 2004, which in this world is a long time. It seems to me that I have continually had lots of driver issues with these cards. I know that Canopus does what Aurora doesn’t for a lot less money. Maybe it’s time to jump?
Sorry for the digression, but trouble-shooting makes my brain hurt.
