B&H just posted the cards at $899 with “Accepting Orders” which usually means they should be available soon!
I’m glad Panasonic lowered the price too!
I’ll definitely be getting two of them to add to my 8GB collection.

Excellent product…not sure how I can work it in to my LH’s and IO’s yet, but I’ll figure it out! 🙂 Question… with LTC Timecode I/O does that mean we can finally have realtime TC out of FCP into a Beta deck?? In other words, hit record on the deck, play on the timeline, and IOHD will send audio, video, AND timecode?? And I hopefully assume “chase” TC from the timeline to a monitor from a deck or other device??

    That would be huge.

[JeremyG] “It worked great. I still have my trusty Dual2 G5 humming away. 8 cores seems like it’ll be better, but who knows.

I am due for an upgrade, but waiting until NAB seems like the logical thing to do. I really really wanted to hit the buy button though.”

I’m right there with you. Still running my Dual2 G5s. I can’t do the “buy every machine that comes out” mentality. I’d rather put the money in software.
Going from a Dual 500 G4, to a Dual 2 G5…I’m definitely ready for the big upgrade again… but its wise to see what NAB will produce!

I honestly don’t feel like I’m missing much by sticking with the G5 other than speed… but I’m hopeful that an Octo Core, Leopard, FCP6 combo will be the right combo for an exciting upgrade.

I echo what Bob says…you don’t want to install any and every application on your edit system… you may also want to uninstall apps you’re not using anymore.

With that said, the only apps I’m running outside of edit and design software is the MS Office suite….which comes in very handy with scripts (Word), occasional EDL’s (Excel), and PowerPoint (clients).
    No problems so far.

Yeah some what. We have more plugins to work with, but most would still agree that audio in FCP is not its strongest.
Hardcore audio work would be done in Logic or ProTools anyway, but I would like to see a better mixer, better GUI with audio plugins…similar to what we have with the 3-way color corrector…better/increased control surface interaction.
I’m not asking for the sky, just a better way to work with audio…like a gain, compressor or limiter that could be applied to a track via a mixer (like what we do in STP or Logic). Nothing major….just “up the game” a bit.

Oh yeah. thanks for the reminder as I have a VO session later today.
I just happened to be playing with Logic yesterday while preparing for todays VO.
I increased the I/O buffer and managed to get the latency down to almost nothing, but like I said, I’m sure there are more settings I could be working with.
Logic is a VERY deep but powerful program. I hope some of it is worked into FCP6.

That’s funny Walter…. most clients don’t know the difference!
I’ve had producers sit in the edit room and call my Final Cut an Avid.
“Sure, its an Avid….whats the next shot?”

As long as they get what they want and pay the bill, they can call it whatever they want.

I use Logic on occasion. LH is a great alternative to firewire devices.
The only latency I’ve seen is with my USB keyboard.
But since I’m not an audio guy, I’m sure its a setting issue….but not a big deal for me. Recording, mixing, and general fooling around has been uneventful with the Kona.
