I always save my project file to the same folder and drive as my media. That way everything is in the same master folder for that project and I don’t lose anything. I also back everything up to a second drive as well.

It is videos like these that get the newbies in trouble. Not sure why someone would post something like this. It just confuses new editors and does not help in any way.

Yes, all DVD’s end up with progressive frames as I understand it. I don’t know why it works better with interlaced footage but I shot the same scenes in 60i, 1080/30p, and 720/30p and 60p but the best end result was the 60i footage even though it gets converted to progressive in Compressor. And again there was a big difference in FCS3. FCS2 never gave me the results I needed. I don’t know if these results are typical but it is what works for me.

OK, first I did not get good results with FCS2 but when I upgraded to FCS3 things changed. Not sure why. Anyway here are my settings.
For an HD file converted to SD for DVD I set the following:In compressor under the “encoder” section “Quality” tab set Mode to “Two Pass VBR Best”,
Average bit rate to 6.7
Max bit rate to 7.9
Motion estimation to “best”In the Frame Controls section set
Frame controls “on”
Resize filter “better”
Output fields “progressive”
Deinterlace “better”
Adaptive details check box is checked
Rate conversion “better”This works great for footage shot with the Sony EX codec and also works well for HDV. But again for some reason this did not give me good results with Final Cut Studio 2, only FCS 3. Not sure why. Hope this helps.

Why does it matter how hard Compressor has to work? The final “look” is what we are after not giving Compressor a break. Personally I have had the best luck shooting in 60i for both the web and DVD. Shooting in 720 does not give me as sharp a look and 1080p can be too strobe like.

Yes, I like the quality as long as I keep in the first half of the zoom range. Above that and the edges get very blurred.

I am using the Century Pro Series HD .6X wide angle adapter MKIII. It is NOT zoom through but it only cost about $450 too. It has very good quality as long as I don’t zoom more than about half of the zoom range. I use it on my EX-3 and it is made by Schneider Optics with Century’s name on it. This may be a good option for you. Good luck.

If you reformat your card you will have to rename it each time for your unique name. I have always just deleted all clips and never had a problem. Some people reformat every now and then just to make sure everything actually gets erased. My cards have unique names and I learned the hard way about reformating and then having to rename them again. Good luck.

If this clip is a still import and you have your default setting for stills set to 1:05 then you can’t extend it unless you go back to your settings and change the default. If this is a movie clip that is only 1:05 long you will need to make it a slow motion clip to make it longer. I don’t have FC open as it is on my other computer so I don’t know the exact steps but if you right click on the clip and choose “speed” you can change the duration in slo mo. Hope this little bit helps, wish I could get to my other computer to give more details. Check for still import duration under “system settings” or the next option down the list under “File” or “Final Cut Pro” (I think).
