[walter biscardi] “You can purchase 2 LaCie 2TB triple interface units for about the same price. I would prefer to use two drives daisy chained rather than four for backup. Just me though.”
I agree. Less devices in the chain and MUCH less clutter.

Can anyone at least recommend a plugin?

[FinalOne] “Sorry to inform you but I am sure there are plenty of Beta testers that have already used the Studio 2.
Please visit http://www.thefinalcutstore.com for all your Final Cut needs.”
Wow, this is the first bit of SPAM I’ve seen on the Cow. Not too bad an average, I guess.

This is bunk. Have you used one of the Intel Imac’s? They’re a lot snappier than a lot of G5 towers I work on. Are you saying G5 towers are more useless than iMac’s now and that you’re stupid if you try to run FC Studio on anything but a spanking new Mac Pro? Not true.
I’ve used Motion and Final Cut on an Intel iMac and it’s a dream to use. I was doing SD, but so is this guy (if I read his posting correctly).
I hate to break that bubble, but a LOT of people are creating amazing things on iMac (and much lesser) computers. Don’t get sucked into the whole “bleeding edge is best” way of thinking, or at least don’t discourage others with it.

Wow, that’s crazy. Did you manage to open it, or are you still getting the error?

Thanks to all of you for this excellent information. I can’t wait for the new suite to ship so you guys can run it through the paces.

[Jerry Hofmann] “But you’ll be needing a way to capture without FW involved for the best workflow… you need an HD capture card”
Jerry, I’m confused. Are you saying there’s a boost in quality if HDV is captured via a capture card, as opposed to FW? I thought HDV via FW is the best HDV gets. Is that incorrect?
-
[Graeme Nattress] “Just stick it on a FW drive, take it roud to Walter’s studio and say, “Can you master this out for me?”, which you do for a reasonable $ fee and everyone’s happy.”
Graeme, how would one go about mastering it out? Does this mean transcoding again? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

What I do, if you really want to speed things up, is sit there and watch it and hit escape when you’ve grabbed some good stuff, then shuttle ahead and continue. Once you get into the camera-person’s groove, you can guess exactly what they’re going to do and if you miss anything, just roll back, grab it, hit escape and move on. No cueing by FCP involved.
And you get to watch every minute of your stuff!

[red ochre] “Well 1 second after a TC break doesn’t sound so bad to me (which is what Avid does). A shame FCP does give this as an option. It can make life much easier.”
Actually, you lose a lot more than 1 second in some cases. I’ve had it miss whole takes. Depends on the deck, preroll time, etc.
I’ve done this with FCP for about 100 hrs of TOD footage and it did it without a hitch, grabbing every frame.
What’s the problem? The extra time it takes? I’d say this is something to plan from the beginning.
