Well, I found the answer quickly. There are choices for “Nudge audio volume +1 or -1 db” in the keyboard shortcuts. Hadn’t found that before. I’m going to assign those commands to the bracket keys.

March 27, 2016 at 2:06 am in reply to: Color grading failure so far, using Canon .cube LUTs in PremiereThanks for your note, Oliver. Yes, I am trying to go through Lumetri. And I’ve tried it a number of different ways without success. I’ve done enough reading online now to know that some LUTs work with certain applications but not in others. That’s the result I’m getting. I need the new Canon LUTs to work in Premiere.
Although I’m an amateur at color grading I do know, of course, that there are a variety of ways to do color. The reason I want to start the process with the Canon LUTs is that they’ve gone to the trouble to create LUTs that go with their LOGs so I think that will save me a lot of time an effort. I assume sometimes the Canon LUTs will be all I need and most times I’ll have to tweak them. But making my post-production process efficient and high quality is my aim.
Any more help I can get on that question would be much appreciated.

Well, if I were doing that it would probably be with an AJA Io 4K. I want it but the reason I’m not using it is that it costs $2K and I can’t justify it right now. I’ll get one as soon as I can. For now I’m just looking at my image full-frame on a 4K monitor, basically as an extension of the desktop. It’s not optimal and it’s not what you’re looking for.
From what I’ve read, there is a BlackMagic box that does the same thing as the AJA box, I think for a similar price. But I understand that the AJA box is a lot quieter. I don’t know of any other options.

Darn you, Shane. Always popping up with inconvenient FACTS.
Yes, that was pretty much my guessing analysis. Looks like AJA is going to get more of my money. Hey, at least the money is going to a company that deserves it, for all the good products and great customer service they offer.
Thanks.

You’re certainly right that boxes that deliver 4k video for monitoring all seem to do other things, as well.
Thanks for responding so quickly, Shane. I’ve looked at the Ultrastudio 4K and, yes, it does deliver the functionality I need (plus some) and it’s at a price I can afford. I’ve been put off, though, by reviews with multiple exclamation points describing how noisy that box is. Perhaps I’m more sensitive to that complaint since I’m looking forward so much to the silence of the Mac Pro 2013, which replaces my my very noisy Mac Pro tower (in which I had installed additional fans).
I’ll keep the Ultrastudio 4K as a possibility, though, for the reasons you gave. But I hold out a small, lingering hope that I might find an alternative. (Of course, you’d probably know if there was one. Drat.)

I wonder when we will see new chip speeds and GPU updates?
I’ve been wondering the same thing. Rumored to be “later this year” but that’s always the case. I think I need to dive in now so I really appreciate you taking the time to describe your experience with the 2013 MacPro here. Much appreciated!

Thanks very much for that, Erik. Makes a lot of sense and much appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions. Alas, none hit the mark, but all are appreciated.
I even have a picture in my head of the window where I selected the pre-set that I had made. I think I have now entered a parallel universe.
Oh, well…
