January 6, 2014 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Common problem? Audio levels jump when I add a nodeThanks very much, Nick. It’s good to read — A) that my problem isn’t unique, and B) that you have some workarounds. I knew about adding a keyframe in the viewer and have done that a bit but after all my years with FCP I didn’t remember the Option-CMD-K method. I think I’ll put that into my Shuttle Pro!
Cheers

Perfecto. Thanks.

Hi Shane,
I’m sure you’re right that this originated in After Effects (or similar program) and that may be the bottom-line answer. But I could swear I saw a promotion at one time for the sale of such an effect. Could just be my faulty memory.
If anyone has a better memory of this than I do (!) I’d love to hear about it.
Thanks.

Hello all,
The responses here are informative about Premiere not being able to encode to Pro Res. But the original question asked whether it is possible to import pre-existing Pro Res files (on a Mac) into Premiere and then edit them.
I’m a PPro newbie but believe the answer to that is “yes.” Am I right?

Great to hear that, Jim. Thanks for letting me know.

Hi,
Even if I knew the specifics of how that file is apparently corrupted I don’t think I would know which application might be able to rescue it for you. Perhaps others on this forum will know. But I think you’re generally on the right track: trying every app that you can think of to play the file and then, most important, trying to get that app to export it into a new .mov file. QuickTime Pro would be my first choice. Then I would try After Effects (which I think might be the best choice). If you or your colleagues have Final Cut Studio, you could try FCP or Compressor. Other good encoding programs such as Episode would be worth a shot. I can’t recall if VLC has an export function but I don’t think so.By the way, don’t take offense with me giving some after-the-fact advice. My DP and I are fanatics about backing up video data before we reformat any card. Usually he and I both make a disk image of the card and then I import the data into the edit system. Only then do we format a card. I know…what we do is overkill. But it’s very cheap insurance.
Good luck.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks. Actually, I’m working with two separate internal drives; not a partitioned drive. So I think my configuration should work fine. I’m just not sure and I thought I would check for some expert guidance before setting it up.

I might be suggesting the obvious but have you had a look at the Sound settings in the MBP? I have had this problem more than once and went into Sound to discover that the Mute box was checked. I never checked it; don’t know how it happens. But it does.

July 6, 2011 at 9:00 pm in reply to: When I open a new project my Favorite Effects are goneI think your preferences are corrupted. That happens from time-to-time and when it happens the preferences need to be trashed and renewed.
Do you have any software to save a copy of your “good” preferences? I use “Preference Manager” and there are others. You can use that to trash your corrupted preferences. Then a new set of default preferences will be automatically created the next time you open FCP. Then you can re-establish your favorites, window positions, etc. and then use Preferences Manager or an alternative to save a good copy of your preferences. The next time you face this problem, you’ll be able to trash your corrupted preferences and re-establish your “clean” personal set — including all your favorites — very easily.
This can also be done manually but it takes a bit more time and effort. Do a search and there should be instructions somewhere here for how to do that.
