To my knowledge istorage pro has changed their business model and is only doing OEM through their parent company so if you go that route you maybe surprised at the lack of attention to the after sale.

Maxx Digital did the same as we have hundreds of drives in stock and are buying every day as well. Prices are higher but we are in a good position to help during the shortage. i have 20 years of storage experience and 20 years of storage contacts to help Maxx Digital service our customers.

I am not surprised by your post. You are not alone as many companies want to save money. I can only tell you that you get what you pay for. Maxx Digital ,Caldigit,Sonnet Tech just to name a few sell solutions and when you are editing professional video footage it is very important to have support on weekends ,evenings and everything in between. Most professional companies can not endorse used gear of any kind.
So if you buy from a company like istorage you will NOT get any qualified Video workflow experience service,No advance replacements, and most of the time no one to even pick up the phone.And after hours and weekends are not even a topic at most companies. But yes you will save money and if that is your goal then you should go for it.
Maxx Digital does offer Creative Cow discounts so try asking one of the guys for a Bob Zelin CC discount and see if that helps. I can only tell you to ask Maxx Digital customers about the support we offer and then tell me what your media and the success of you company is worth. Just my two cents and we are here to help if you need anything.

Please forgive me because I am about to go BOB ZELIN on you. Why would you put so much focus on price and not quality and a good track record? There is no question that companies like Caldigit,Sonnet and Maxx Digital are way better at servicing their customers than large advertisers like Promise,Lacie and Gtech.

What does your media mean to you? If you were to fly to NYC from LA would you take a well advertised Airline that had a not so good safety record just because it was cheaper?

These smaller companies charge more because they go through the aggravation of testing real world editing situations so you the customer can benefit.

Call me crazy but media is your life’s blood so i would say to protect it with the right solution and not the cheapest one. As far as Thunder Bolt goes there are still bugs even with the boxes the are shipping. I say use equipment that is proven until the TB bugs are all worked out. It should be soon we hope but many companies like Maxx digital are waiting for Intel to release chip sets so the bugs can be worked out.

I could not agree with Bob more. Ci is a great OEM and they build for many companies such as Isilon, Small Tree and many others. It is as you found out the customer support that makes a huge difference. Bob helped out for free but if you had purchased through a system integrator support is only a phone call away. Try to call Ci and then call Maxx Digital and see who responds quicker. They can bend sheet metal but should leave the system support to system builders like Maxx Digital.

ExaSAN itself does not need a metadata controller.

“ExaSAN does not need a metadata controller, however, most SAN software solutions and I think ALL file based SAN solutions recommend having a separate metadata server. This has nothing to do with Accusys ExaSAN and has everything to do with the SAN software providers. In order to be neutral, I will just state that, it is best practice to have metadata servers, for data and SAN integrity. With that said there is always a way around everything, as with Xsan you can use a metadata server as a workstation, (again not recommended) but doable, and it does require someone who knows what they are doing to set it up correctly, or it will not be pretty, and it is definitely not a long term solution. If you want the details I would recommend reading the Xsan admin guide https://images.apple.com/xsan/docs/Xsan_2_Admin_Guide.pdf if you need more info about any particular SAN solution, contact the software provider.”

ExaSAN provides storage. How and what the clients read from and write to ExaSAN, is up to the client.

Also remember when you are putting this together on your own;you have no over all support. I suggest you buy this through a system integrator and not try and do this yourself . You will have problems and system integrators solve these problems on a daily basis. Maxx Digital is only one of many great system integrators so my advise is to choose one that works for you.
