The hosts on the Basics forum are NOT newbies, there are some excellent hosts there who could just as easily host here on the main AE forum. Why they are there is that they tend to not mind answering the same question over and over.

I installed all the Adobe Creative Suite CS2 and the apps seem to work fine but like you, I will be keeping my copies of AE running on my Windows and other Mac machines.

But I am getting a bunch of Windows audio apps set up on the Intel Mac to see how they run under BootCamp. That should prove interesting. ;o)

Have fun with Shake, you will soon be paying a visit to your Dear Ole Mum saying: “Mom, my brain is sore!” ;o)

Node-based animation systems are a whole new thing when you’ve been used to the layer/timeline metaphor of the Adobe interface in After Effects, etc.

Thank you a lot for taking the time to educate me on Rosetta (and on BootCamp/Parallel), Jeff. I appreciate it very much.

With so much to do and so many things in crunch mode right now, I just haven’t had time to check this all out. It was actually funny when the machine got here and I was merrily loading things and suddenly I went, “What if I am doing all this wrong?!#@!?” That’s when I ran here and played the role of Today’s Dummy.

I just got my new MacBook Pro yesterday, B.J., and just installed InDesign CS2 and the rest of the Creative Suite.

Any caveats/remedies that you have found aside from installing the latest drivers?

I would add one thing to Dave’s comments (which are right on the money), regarding getting to know the render pipeline well: Also get to know rending as numbered frames and not as Quicktime or Windows Media files. This can show you exactly where the problem lies and isolate it to a frame. That way you do not lose all the work up to that point (as the frames are all there) and you can then see which layer and/or object, etc., is causing your problem. Fix it and render out from that frame and voila!, you’re done.

I have to agree with Steve on this one. I have also seen times when someone started a project and didn’t hit the mark and got replaced later. The first person got an “Assistant Editor credit but full editor’s credit, that’s an insult to the craft and the profession.

Glad to see you up and about, Steve. How are you healing up after the motorcycle accident? We hope all is coming back together nicely.

Thanks for the feedback, Mark. Since what I really want to do will end up allowing for a bit of a performance hit (most of the time), I will go with the Parallels software. Also, when I need sheer brute force for some of my music programs, etc., I will just reboot in BootCamp.

The real choices you have in that price range are:

The XL H1 as you have already pointed out and for good reasons.

The Panasonic HVX200 as it can shoot in multiple formats and when you need HD, it’s there; if you need to transition off SD but still have some SD shoots, it can shoot in standard def, as well. There are discussions of it in our Panasonic P2 forum.

Those are the two that make the most sense to me.
