Try using your audio “Gain” filter and increase the gain a few decibels and see what happens.
Boosting your gain will allow you to increase the volume level.

Sorry to be a smart-aleck but that is the only answer that makes sense to me, as we do not have all the details nor do we understand the client, your situation, etc.
That’s what I would go for, the biggest check I could get them to write.
My apologies if that seems too nebulous but it’s the best I can do with the information at hand.

This is the time, as has been stated here on this board many times in similar situations, to bow out gracefully and with the kind of style that leaves your reputation intact.
If it were me, I would just offload the work and wipe the drive clean with the kind of reformatting that would make recovery impossible, and then bring them the drive with a paper that they could sign for the receipt of the drive (so there’s no question but that it was returned).
Would I give them the work under any circumstances? No.

Tony is right, certified bank checks can have a stop payment applied to them the same as a regular check. They offer little more insurance than a regular check.
Californians at least have the security of the law which will bring the wrath of the District Attorney down on people who write checks and do not honor them. But that law only holds for NSF checks, not for checks that have had a stop-pay applied to them.

In San Diego, there is a Photoshop group and they may be aware of a local After Effects group. (I am not at the moment.) The address for the Photoshop group is https://www.sdphotoshopusers.com and perhaps you could visit their site and write them to see if they are aware of such a group in San Diego.
The group in Los Angeles is the Motion Graphic Los Angeles, known as MGLA, which is at mgla.org, I believe. It is very active.

The Tannoy nearfield monitors work very well as they are mixing monitors and tend to actually reflect the sound that is truly there. Many speakers trim, fatten and otherwise modify the sound based on the “style” of the speaker. Good studio monitors do not do this and are designed to represent the sound accurately. While there are speakers that are better than the Tannoys and have the hefty price tags to match, the Tannoys are trustworthy and they are priced within reason.
