    Hi guys,

For a student piece, i’m creating some classical music; think of the cheesy, bombastic hollywood scores.

Obviously i’m not going to get anywhere near that quality, but i’m just after a piece of software (for mac) where I have a bank of instruments (harps, string sets, basoons etc) and can compose away. I’ve used the piano roll in fruity loops in the past – can I assume that most composition software operates in this way too? Software with a trial version is preferred.

Would garage band suffice, and if so, can anyone set me on the path to finding instrument packs (free is preferred, not too concerned of a quality compromise in this instance).

I’ve no real grounding in music theory, so composing by notation is out – I just think of a tune in my head, find the relevant note, and continue from there… which is why the FL piano roll was great. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Cheers!

Garageband has a Symphonic loops edition. It may solve your problem.
