Thanks, Sam. That’s exactly what I thought when I saw it.

    Hi Zoebeth,

Every post that Bogiesan makes has that sig file trailer on it exhorting people to “read the freaking manual.” It is not personal, it is his personal sig file. His advice was very good and as he says in his sig file, don’t take it personal.

I liked the video much better than Bogiesan, btw. It reminded me of a modern day T-Rex or something.

I rock harder than Bogiesan and while I may have more gray hair than Bogiesan, I can outdance him — especially if I’ve been drinking with Cowdog.

Bogiesan reads manuals. I listen to some pretty bad ass rock ‘n roll. Usually when I’m done, my eyes are rolling around too hard to read manuals. So I look for posts by SPACEMAN. SPACEMAN rocks, too. SPACEMAN reads manuals. SPACEMAN can therefore cut music videos. Boomer likes SPACEMAN. SPACEMAN hasn’t posted lately. Boomer misses SPACEMAN and wishes that he would visit this planet again soon.

In SPACEMAN’s absence, I will go read a manual — or maybe wonder why Bogiesan has gotten too old to rock ‘n roll…

There is an article on this very subject in the very first issue of Creative COW Magazine. There are in-depth instructions in Jerry Hofmann’s article “Achieving a Rock Solid FCP System — No Matter the System or Version” and you can download a PDF of the issue at…

[Tim Wilson] “Big fan of the Chamber of Commerce approach. We wound up doing a show FOR the Chamber of Commerce! We did one episode per month, and it ran once a week for the whole month — gotta let everyone have their moment in the sun, and then give everyone a chance to see it.”

I agree with you, Tim. I once got a three year contract on producing the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce local magazine that was a city guide, with history, stories, local attractions, etc., and was a real magazine — not the newsprint that you see in many cities. It was a great way to meet all the local businesspeople and win many new accounts. Ended up eventually getting the local zoo guide as well.

Chambers, by their by-laws must use locals. Get involved, you *can* get great work from being a part of it — but you must get involved. Trying it a few times and sitting on your hands while there at a meeting, won’t work. Get up and meet people.

  • [TonyTony] “What happen to Adobe not taking about future products and releases. Now it seems they’re leaking like a cruiseship on an iceberg.”

No, it is just a change in the “corporate mood” and culture over at Adobe. With the Macromedia purchase came a management team that had a long history of working through the Macromedia Labs site to have open developmental programs going that users could participate in and thereby help define and shape the character of future releases. Many of these former Macromedia people are now in key executive positions at Adobe and brought this mindset to the new Adobe Labs program. It started with Lightroom and now includes Soundbooth and other tools now open to market feedback and input. Even the new Photoshop is now running in a developmental cycle that is a part of the Adobe Labs project.

It is a change in corporate focus and I, for one, like it. It seems a lot more customer-centric than programs wherein a handful of people beta test a product — and often miss many things due to such a small sampling of users being involved. I think great things are going to come out of Adobe Labs and they are free to “prenounce” all they want, just as long as they keep things like Adobe Labs cooking.

    Hello Graeme,

If I buy a VCR and copy something off the telly, I have not broken any laws.

    BUT…

If I do what this guy is implying — EVEN IF IT IS ONLY TO BACK-UP MY LEGALLY PURCHASED TITLES — then I have broken the Digital Millennium Act. While I do not agree with the law, it is the law. The film companies worked to take away people’s rights and the Congress played along.

It is not the law in Canada where you live, nor is it the law in much else of the world. But the Digital Millennium Act is the law in the United States and here, you cannot back-up and make copies of the discs.

Even in fair use situations, you cannot make copies and must use means like taping a playback through a camera. You cannot *directly* rip or grab a clip even in a legitimate fair use setting — you must tape through a camera — or you have broken the Digital Millennium Act.

It is a ridiculous law but it is the law.

Welcome to Amerika all my fellow Yanks,

[debe] “…unsolicited media might be LESS likely to get viewed, because people have to do the extra step of putting in the computer. A piece of paper is there, in their hand, ready to read. If they are so inclined, they might read. They might be less inclined to go over to the computer, put the disk in, wait for it to spin up, and launch it.”

Good points Debe. The fact that “money people” are busy making money tells me that anything you can do to help simplify their lives and getting your message to them, is probably a good thing.

I looked at your full-sized disk that you gave me years ago, Rich. I still have it around here in one of my massive disc piles. I have received a number of full-sized discs and I nearly always look at them.

I just don’t bother with the “dinkers” as they are too big to fit in a wallet, don’t sit well in a stack of business cards, are too small to sit or stand in a pile of standard discs — and so they end up in the trash.

    Sorry.

While I love to see people’s demo reels and have seen some great work on CDs and DVDs over the years, I have yet to see any good work on those wallet-sized dinkers.

Blame it on a habit learned while using Apple’s trayless players. Now that I have a tray back, I may break my rut one day…

    :o)
