I believe the DJI camera uses the Gopro chip so assume it records in the same format. For GoPro footage I use Mpeg streamclip, (free), to transcode. With Mpeg streamclip, drop a clip onto the window then choose convert to Quicktime. In the conversion options window which will now be open, choose, from the top, the codec you wish to use, I choose Proress 422HQ. Set the qualitity slider to full. There are lot’s of settings in there but all are ok as-is, except on the right where there is a button “deselect for progressive material”. Uncheck that and press go at the bottom. The resulting transcoded clip should be pristine.

Mark, you could try making a bootable installer. Do a search for “Disk Maker” choose the one for Mountain Lion. Get yourself an 8 gig USB stick and plug it in to your computer. Launch Disk maker and it will ask you which disk you want to make an installer from. Choose your downloaded copy of ML. It will then format the USB stick to Mac OS extended and create the installer. When complete, restart your computer whilst holding down the Alt key. When the screen lights up you will see the available boot volumes, choose the newly created USB installer. If you are using a wireless mouse it won’t function at this stage so use your arrow keys to select the boot volume then hit the return key. It will take quite a while to boot from the stick because it’s slow. When it’s ready, run the installer and choose the empty partition on your HD. Hopefully all will go as expected but it will take much longer because of the amount of data and the speed limitation of USB.

    Good luck.

  • Your project file cannot exceed 100Mb. Sequence 1 in that project is 92Mb so if you create a new sequence 2, it is part of the same project and so will increase the project file size. Try dumping unused render files to free up some space.

  • Cut, or copy and paste in any application loads whatever you have copied temporarily into Ram. 35 mins is a big chunk and might have exceeded the amount of Ram available at that time.

Re-setting the clock may work, I never tried it. But with some Apps they got wise to that one and made it so the installer won’t procede unless the clock is set to network time automatic update. This is all getting out of hand.

January 25, 2017 at 1:09 am in reply to: Tutorial Recommendation for Final Cut Pro X 10.3.1

Jan, I’ve been using FCP since version 1.25, took a look at FCPX a couple of years ago then gave up on it. When FCPX 10.3 came out I decided to give it another look. In many ways it might be better had I never used the original FCP because the new version is radicaly different and a completely different mindset. I’ve been using FCPX for a month now and liking it. There are lot’s of training video’s out there but the best I found was one by Izzy Video, which gives end to end, every button basic training in FCPX 1O.3. There are 2.5 hours of it and it’s free.

    Take a look here.

January 19, 2017 at 2:07 am in reply to: Compressor has stopped asking “burn another disk?”

This may or may not be of help, but I do the final burn in Toast rather than Compressor because the assets are temp file which are deleted after the burn. In Compressor I set the job action to “Do nothing” instead of “Burn DVD” (or Blu Ray) That way the encoded assets will be stored alongside the original media, wherever it’s stored. Then you can burn as many copies as you like and even have the option to archive the assets. Then perhaps, if asked for more copies at a later date it’s a breeze to do.

    Best.

January 19, 2017 at 1:35 am in reply to: Problems with downloads from the apple store

Mark, I had the exact same problem a couple of months back. I had resort to calling Apple and eventually got to speak to a supervisor who sorted everything out there and then. I don’t know what the problem is with Apple. There was a time when they bent over backwards to be helpful to Pro users, not anymore. They know that for some users, a particular software requires an older O.S. but they seem to make it as difficult as possible to facilitate that. In the recent past I have downloaded an O.S, not because I needed it, but because after a new O.S. is introduced the previous one disappears from the App Store and it’s a pain getting hold of the previous one. Having three O.S’s downloaded, the day came when I needed to use one. When I tried to install it I got an error message telling me that the installer was damaged or had been interfered with. Well it turns out that the downloaded O.S. is time stamped and will expire in a certain period if not installed. Why on Earth does Apple think that’s a good idea, maybe it’s control thing.

Just to be sure. When you go the the App Store/ Purchased software tells you no recent purchases. On the right in small print is the option to complete, enter redeem code. Go there.

Anyway, for me the non-delivery cost me a lucrative job. My advice, if you have no luck, is pick up the phone and call Apple. You’ll get to speak to a robot which will give you the runaround but if you tell it you want to speak to a person it will oblige. THEN you might get something moving.

    Good luck.

Download and install Quicktime 7. That should do it.

    January 7, 2017 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Mac Pro Tower – OS X 10.7.5 – FCP X 10.0.8

It depends which model of Mac Pro you have. The 2008 3.1 and later will run Mac OS X El Capitan and the latest version of fcpx. FcpX 10.3 now has customisable workspaces which will allow you to set things up across two monitors. As far as I’m aware there is no way of setting external monitoring without a card such as blackmagic or aja. As you have probably discovered FcpX looks for an AV device, (card) for external monitoring. Personally I wouldn’t try to use that version of FcpX. I tried it and gave up on it, but 10.3 is changed in many ways and is a great improvement on how things used to be. One thing to be aware of though is that if you have any third party hardware such as a raid controller it may not run under El Capitan, and as I discovered, a replacement Highpoint Rocketraid, though good, will not work on anything earlier than Mountain lion, so that would be a problem for your Fcp7 installation.
Also if you had a blackmagic card working in Fcp7 under Lion you would find that when booting into El Capitan the Card would require a firmware update for it to work. The downside to that is that it would no longer work on Fcp7. :O/
