  • Mark is correct, you have to follow the correct procedure. Your computer can be on but FCP cannot be running during connection. FCP grabs the firewire ports and will react badly if you connect or disconnect any firewire devices whilst it’s running

Connect the firewire lead to the camera or deck from your computer.
Turn the camera on and put it into VTR or Playback mode.
Launch FCP and you should then see the deck or camera when you go to log and capture. (not log and transfer)

Michael, you are right. My mistake.

FCP can handle 32k audio, you just have to open the 48k pre-set, duplicate it and change the sample rate to 32k. Then change the pre-set name to whatever codec “32k audio” save it as, and it will be there to select in pre-sets when needed.

In this case, if the converted Red files play OK in QT then it should be fine in FCP unless there is a mismatch somewhere because after all, FCP 7 runs on QT

If the files play back in QT 7 go to, Window/show movie properties. Check the audio format. if it’s anything other than Linear PCM big endian @ 48k then I suggest you export from QT to ProRes and change the audio to AIFF 48k. That should work.

  • Sorry, I have no idea. This video was posted only this week by Rick Young. it might be an idea to email him for more info. I do have his address but it might not be polite for me to post it here. I think it’s on the website. Post back if you have no luck.

    I use Clipwrap for AVCHD.

I’m reading your post on an Android tablet which doesn’t support flash so I can’t view your example but I suspect composite mode might be what you are looking for. Undo your opacity change first.

The frame rate meter is at the top left in the window. I still have my old G5 though can’t remember the last time I switched it on. It has an Nvidia 6800 Ultra 256 and prior to that an ATI Radeon 9800 256. Both good cards and would recommend either if you are looking for a replacement AGP card. You should be able to find something on eBay but be sure the card is a Mac version, particularly in the case of the Nvidia as a flashed PC version requires external power in the form of 2 molex connectors which are a bit thin on the ground in the G5.

I think you’ll be fine with that card. Fcp isn’t so demanding on the graphics card but it does like plenty of Vram. Motion is heavily dependent on the card so as a test open one of the template’s ‘mortice – fire’ and play it through whilst watching the frame rate meter. On a G5 with a good graphics card it will Max out at around 12fps if you are lucky.
