Ernie, I don’t think anyone is being hard ass as you put it. What people are advising is to keep FCP7 in an environment where it is happy and will do everything that is expected of it. Nobody want’s an app which throws up unexpected behavior when you are trying to get your work done. Of course FCP7, at it’s best, always did have the odd wobble now and then but there were accepted resolutions to all of them. Stray into uncharted territory with a non-qualified operating system you are on your own because there are no known fixes. That aside, if anyone can give me a technically valid or good reason for running FCP7 on anything other than OS 10.6.8 I’ll be glad to hear it.

Also, if you are using a macbook pro you can partition your only hard disk into two. Then you can have one operating system on one partition and another on partition two. That way you can still accommodate an external media drive. Sandboxing apps and operating systems is the way to go.

Ahh, Nick beat me to it. Yes this forum is for FCP7 and earlier. I’m not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to FCPX, however, here’s a demo of how to change the color and opacity of a generator in X.

This should be quite easy to do. Go to video generators/matte/color. Make it any color you like and then place it above the video track. Turn down the opacity then chop it up into small segments and remove alternate segments so that it flashes on and off. You can also stack different colors one above the other.

Well…The major broadcasters in the UK use Media composer, Premiere Pro and FCPX, dependent on intention and/or use. FCP7 was dropped by the broadcasters after Apple dropped them.
Bottom line. You can’t go back to a working system after updating to a later operating system from an earlier one. You will have to start from scratch and re-install everything from the ground up, using a qualified O/S as the starting point. As a seasoned professional like yourself I can’t imagine what you thought an upgrade to Yosemite was going to give you over what you had. Working at the BBC we don’t have admin privileges, so we can’t update anything, for this very reason. -
I should have mentioned. Apparently if you have image stabilisation turned on it does take forever to process the captured footage. I watched a tutorial prior to getting the app and this issue was mentioned, so when I set Filmic Pro up for the first time I turned stabilisation off and have always used it that way.
That being said, 30 mins of video is going to use up a lot of space on an iPhone. Perhaps you have run into storage problems too. -

I believe that Filmic Pro does indeed record 23.98 when in 24fps mode but I can’t be absolutely sure as I haven’t used that setting myself. Good luck with the shoot and address any problems that might arise later. It would be good to know how things went.
