Thanks Adam … I did have a quick look at the feature list but didn’t notice that bit, especially as it is there in the help system of ‘Prime’ – oh well – it’s such a pity I can’t justify the expenditure for anything other than Prime, as a beginner I’m looking at loads of tutorials but get frustrated when coming across a clever feature to find that it’s not available in ‘Prime’ – oh well … the way of the world … I guess if Maxon didn’t offer a cut down version there wouldn’t be one in my price range at all … good of you to take the time.

Thanks Richard, so good of you to take the time … that’s done it – so having done my duplication and obviously got it wrong is it possible to go in and edit those settings or do I have to start again … it doesn’t seem like it’s editable, is “Duplicating” and “Arranging” and stuff just a one-off effect ie when applied it has to be correct ?

Thanks Isaac… yes that worked fine but now I can save a C4D project and open it in AE but there is no ‘Export to C4D” option in the After Effects export menu … any ideas ?

If anyone comes across this and they’re having the same problem, I think I’ve got the exchange plugin working using the one at the top of this page:

    https://www.maxon.net/en/support/updates/plugins.html

I’d love to upgrade to the latest C4D but cannot justify it at the moment but it’s good that Maxon hasn’t been like Adobe and made it impossible for owners of old versions to use the software, kind of makes me want to upgrade (and I will when funds allow) whereas with Adobe I have to be dragged kicking and screaming to buy upgrades !

Hi – can I jump in here … I’ve just downloaded the C4D demo and have put the correct plugin into AE but when I open AE I get “after effects error opening resource file “C4Dformat.aex” – bit of a problem really – anyone any ideas please ?

Yes Ross I think you’re right, I’ve learnt to live with it … life’s too short.

I just get it in my head sometimes and then spend hours trying to work out why there’s a glitch … I fail and then come to visit the COW !

    have a good day

Thanks Keith and Walter, as ever, great advice and thanks for the links, I had watched and read those before so please don’t think I just post without doing some research but I hadn’t really got my head around the principal … so providing I make my external drive the ‘cache’ and allocate enough space on that drive all will work (ie I don’t have to press any other buttons)? … Good of you Roger

looking into it further maybe I missed what the external drive was going to help with – performance and persistent disc cache … maybe that’s where the performance/workflow improvements will become obvious, when I’m actually working on a project ?

Thanks Walter, such good advice … yes I think making the ceiling a little smaller than the set is an excellent idea. I’m going to rebuild it any way and actually concentrate on ‘real’ sizes and proportions, at the moment I’m getting strange camera movements/angles because it’s all out of proportion (I made it from scratch basically to see if I could build a box and put a camera in it and it grew like topsie so now I’ve experimented I’ll get serious with it, in many ways in response to your and others advice. Yes also I think I’ll try making the framed images and the monitor real 3d in Invigorator so they can have real shadows – also the ‘pillars’ or something will help give it ‘depth, I’ve looked at loads on-line … a matter of avoiding the ‘cheesy’ sci-fi look that so many have, OK in their place but this client is a bit cerebral.

The client’s editor/producer is an excellent chap and we’ll be able to work together and get the ‘talent shoot’ to work I hope, he’ll give me camera lens height details etc so it should go well.

Good of you to contribute Vishesh.
