I found out the problem with Vegas hanging up during render. I turned off the “GPU acceleration of video processing”
Now all is working OK.

This all got a bit too complicated for me and I really couldn’t figure out much of it. However, I did run across the Audacity program which does exactly what I need as far as recording from my PC. Thanks everyone for responding and for your help and suggestions.

I have “Realtek High Definition Audio” in my device manager along with NVIDIA audio. Can you explain how I access the Stereo Mix option?

A small program that will allow me to record audio that is coming from my PC such as an interview and one that won’t load a pile of extra features on my PC that are unwanted when installing.

I gave HDVsplit a try and it recognizes the camera with the MiniDV tapes. I create a directory where the files are to be stored and give the file a name, switch to the play button on the HDVsplit program and it appears to be recording the footage.
However, when I stop the record and take a look at the file its created there is 0 bytes on the file!
Any suggestions?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the tip. That works fine but since I’ve installed it I also find that Vegas also works. The real issue was that I needed to change the settings on the camera to DV from HDV. It’s troubling how much I forget when I don’t work with these things for a while.

Hi Francios,
Brilliant idea using an old laptop. I simply didn’t consider that. I do have an old one with an old version of Vegas and that solves the problem. Thanks very much everyone for the help.
