A week or so ago I got help through the forum to capture old HDV footage and resolved the problem by using an old laptop that had firewire with an old version of Vegas. That all worked fine but now….
I’m trying to download even older DV footage and when I select the DV capture format the capture program within Vegas I get a message reading: The device Canon HV20 could not be opened” so I’m not able to preview, download, or play any footage in the Vegas capture screen. And the blue screen says, “preview is turned off”.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks very much.

    Hey Roger, try WinDV https://windv.mourek.cz/
It’s what i usually use back in the day. Very reliable for what it did….

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for the tip. That works fine but since I’ve installed it I also find that Vegas also works. The real issue was that I needed to change the settings on the camera to DV from HDV. It’s troubling how much I forget when I don’t work with these things for a while.
