1. 3d camera track the shot
2. find a suitable target and place a solid. make sure it covers the chain (don’t scale it, use solid settings for it)
3. precomp the solid->leave all attributes- call it “CleanPlate” put the texture inside (clean the some in Photoshop)
4. roughly mask the precomp with some feather, don’t worry about a bit of overlap with the guy just don’t make it too big
5. duplicate the footage, mask the parts of the guy that are over the cleanplate
you can do it better

the only way to get a path as a stroke and not a fill is to set it to uniform width and basic brush in Ai before you copy paste it or convert to shape

for the second
CC wide time and echo will do it. use 32 bit to get decent glows without 3rd party plugin. (maybe you could pull this off with 8 bit but I am lazy)

If the snow is the bottom layer then it will be below all the layers and not seen on the video.

You can’t. But you can press the tilda key ~ to maximize the panel. I find this suits the need for more room in the project panel.

Op argues that through his creative method he can get 100% accuracy and faster than manually placing it through the use of difference. He uses regular transform tracking to fool Ae that the image as shifted in order to apply the data to a null and attach the new image so it will be placed exactly over the original. This is demonstrated in the video. Pretty cool but I think the difference method is faster for me. Maybe a competition is in order 🙂
