On the Canon USA web site, I put “20x” in the search field, and three Vixia cameras came up: R10, R11, and R100, says they all have “Canon 20x HD video lens” – just not sure what the chip and processing quality is compared to the XA10.

I am looking into the XH-A1, will have to find one used, it looks like. I imagine I could probably get a Sony or other camera that shoots AVCHD and it would probably be fine. I have a system of shooting one cam wide and the other for closer cut-ins and obviously need the footage to match up as much as possible.

Thank you for your suggestions, Roger.

[Roger Van Duyn] “As far as I know, Canon isn’t making any that have at least a 20X zoom. Even the XF-300 and XF-305 have an 18X zoom.”

Thanks, Roger… after doing a little research, I’ve found a couple of the Vixia cameras, RF10, RF100, etc. have 20x zooms, but I don’t know if the video quality will be comparable to the XA10.

I’m wondering if mixing footage from a 1-chip CMOS camera and a 3-chip CCD camera would “gel” and look right…?

    Thanks for your help,
    Rob

UPDATE: NO response as of yet, so I figured I should stay true to the source clip and render with upper field first. Tried twice now, and both times Vegas crashed about 35% of the way through. Could this crash possibly be the result of rendering as a DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen Video Stream with field order set to Upper Field First? Or do I possibly have some other more serious issue? Arggggghhh!

Ok, well, thanks guys. I guess I haven’t been dealing with these large 1920×1080 clips much. Patience is a virtue, apparently, when it comes to editing in 2010.

    Thanks again,

You’re welcome, Dave, but it’s really John who deserves the credit. I was ready to pull my hair out until I found his post and he replied to my thread. But anyway, glad to help, and best of luck to you.

    Dave,

I followed John Rofrano’s instructions in a different thread and uninstalled the “new” Quicktime and reverted to an older version. This allowed Vegas to show the footage in the timeline, instead of just a black screen. I was going to purchase one of the transcoding options talked about frequently, but found (also thanks to John) that Vegas has the Cineform codecs installed, so I render using the appropriate one for my resolution and have been quite happy with the results.

Thanks Jon and everyone for the responses. I didn’t specify which YouTube video I’d watched because I actually found several… but mostly the consensus was to use the Avid DNxHD codec, which is one that I tried, among others.

After digging relentlessly through some posts, I came across a post by you, Jon, suggesting that someone with Vegas 8 revert to an older version of QuickTime to clear up the “black video” problem, and, voila, that actually worked for me, too.

I guess I don’t need to buy NeoScene if Vegas Pro contains the same codec, so that’s another excellent tip, Jon, thanks a bunch.

    Rob
