I have rendered (from Canon 7D) a clip from Vegas 10 into separate video (m2v) and audio (ac-3) streams. When I bring them into DVD-A 5, and go to prepare a blu-ray disc, DVD-A tells me that it wants to recompress the AC-3 file.

I’m curious why this is, as I was under the impression that DVD-A prefers AC3 for blu-ray. I just used the default AC-3 Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio template, is there something more compatible with blu-ray than this?

    Thank you!

Use the “pro” version of AC-3. For whatever reasons, the “studio” version is non-compliant. Also, stick to 192kb/s for stereo, 448kb/s for 5.1 surround, for maximum DVDA happiness.

Also, carefully preview the result. I’ve been seeing some weirdness with AC-3 with Vegas 10 rendering for BD and DVD… weird modulations generated with the rendering.
