Speaking of system specs, it looks like you have a pretty beefy system yourself. I am running a single X5690 with 24GB in a Dell Precision T7500 workstation and I thought that was fast. But your system must just rip through renders. Does it not?

Nick,
Appreciate the quick response. I don’t use my GPU (GTX570) to render in Sony Vegas as my benchmark testing showed it didn’t have much of an effect on render times. So i had it turned off already. Although I believe it’s enabled in Neat Video.
I screwed around with Neat Video a little more last night. I spent some time building a profile but I can’t seem to get any good areas for green boxes during the noise selection. The best I get are the yellow thick boxes. I am editing interlaced video so with the split frame to work with it’s hard to get enough area to select noise.
So my renders don’t show a whole lot of difference even though I have played around with all the filter settings and such. What is your workflow? Do you apply color correction and things like that prior to applying Neat Video? Ideally, once you build and save a profile do you essentially apply it to other footage from the same camera under the same settings so you don’t have to build a noise profile for each and every video clip?

Nick,
Did you ever find a solution to this?
I am having the same issues only I am evaluating the demo version of Neat Video. I am applying it to SD video less than 30 minutes. Just like you, I can see the improvements to the video in the preview window and they look good. But after I render, it doesn’t look any better. It’s grainy.

October 10, 2012 at 5:50 pm in reply to: Worse preview perfomance after adding 2nd processor…Denis,
Ideally, both CPUs in your system should have the same Intel sSpec code (e.g. SL8MA, SLBBK, SLAP2, etc). This code is engraved on the top of newer CPUs or on the bottom of the older CPUs with pins. As long as these codes match, the stepping should be the same. I am surprised your machine boots at all with 2 CPUs of different steppings. It was common for Intel to have 2 or even 3 sSpec codes for each model CPU representing minor tweaks. For example, Intel’s Quad-Core Xeon E5320 has sSpec codes of SL9MV (B3 stepping), SLAC8 (B3 stepping), SLAEL (G0 stepping). Definitely try swapping in identical CPUs from your second machine if you want to test this theory. It couldn’t hurt. And updating the BIOS prior to a major hardware change was a good move as this is almost always recommended.
My primary profession is in the used IT hardware industry. We sling a lot of used/refurbished server gear and provide CPU, memory and hard drive upgrades to older systems. The CPU stepping is one we have seen time and time again.
Dave is right in that you may not see a huge boost in performance with a second CPU as Vegas is not coded to take advantage if it but adding a second CPU shouldn’t really hurt anything either.

October 6, 2011 at 7:56 pm in reply to: Slow render times on a fast computer? Maybe this is it.Hi Brad,
Don’t know if you have found this thread yet but I stumbled upon it the other day and it had a wealth of info on how to check for bottlenecks in your setup to get your CPU to max out at 100% or close to that to speed up your render times.

This seems to be a common issue and more of an art than a science so it’s worth the read.
Good luck,

I had this same problem and searching the Internet led me here. My chapter markets were also missing and clicking on the Load Markers button above the timeline did nothing. I thought maybe the video format (AVC) I was using was the problem. So I re-rendered my video tracks to MPEG files and clicked the Load Markers button and they suddenly appeared. I had saved the markets with the video files when rendering in Vegas. Of course, now I am over-budget on space for my DVD, but it at least appears that the issue is markers are incompatible with the AVC file format.

This post from a year ago describes the exact same problem. https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/24/906144
Apparently, I am not the only one having this issue.

[Dave Haynie] “What’s missing right now, though, is that the Sony AVC CODEC only supports constant bitrate encoding.”
Dave, are you sure this is true? If AVC only supported CBR, wouldn’t it be less efficient and therefore take up more file space than MPEG-4 with VBR?
