Vegas 6 already includes Connect HD.

    Thanks.

  • Two things, I’m in PAL land and I’m a Vegas not FCP user. That aside from my tests downconverted HDV leaves BetaSP for dead. Then again down here I can buy two second hand SP cameras (with glass) for the price of a Z1, so I guess I’m not alone in my evaluation of relative quality.
I find that HDV downsamples very nicely to SD 4.2.2, not having to deal with all the issues of A->D conversion when editing SP is also a plus, with HDV you stay in the digital domain from start to finish and also avoid many generational loss issues that you can have with SP. That’s not to say that HDV is without issues and you might have to learn to deal with certain issues related to HDVs compression system. Still I think you’re going to have to deal with the transition at some stage if you want to remain competitive.
Certainly beg, borrow or hire a Z1 and do your own tests.

  • I think the quality is determined by the setting in the preview window.

Well i don’t think the decks themselves will let you record to only channel 1 or 2. You can record (I think) to channels 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, same with capture but you cannot do all 4 at once in Vegas (as yet) and you have to select the tracks in the deck.

As for capture, I now have this working in Vegas, problem was silly me was using VidCap and not Internal Capture. I haven’t tried PTT as yet, that’ll have to wait for a few days I’m afraid.

Insert edits I’m not certain about, far from 100% certain Vegas can do these reliably, even going through the SD Connect box you need to insert a certain number of frames of black to get everything to sync up. It should be capable of working IF you have the right deck, we only have a DVW 250 which being a field recorder does not support insert edits.

Sony J30, basic Decklink, don’t have driver details at hand but downloaded the ‘latest’ from the BMD site. I’ll get exact drive rev later today if that’ll help. Given that two of us are having the precise same problem (other user is also using J30) and he has also loaded latest drivers from BMD it’s kind of interesting.
The only other DB deck I have is a DVW 250, I can try that if you think it might make a difference.
Oh, we also have a BetaSP deck (DVW 75?) with SDI option board, haven’t tried that as I’m trying to capture from DB.

I’m a Vegas user but for what it’s worth I have exactly the same problem. Capturing DB via SDI or using a J30 to downconvert to DV and capturing that no 16:9 flag is set in the captured file.
It’s easy enough for me to fix when the files are on the T/L, RClick, Select Events to End, RClick again>Properties and change the AR of all of them.
I’m certain there’s a way you should be able to do make the same global change in FCP, sorry I cannot help much with that one, maybe try a FCP forum.

If BMD supply ASIO drivers then I can see no reason why not.
It’s upto any audio device’s manufacturer to supply drivers.
