Thanks for the reply. As I said,I am NEW to Sor Sqz,relatively.I was thinking that Sorensen was simply another option to use for converting sequences for later importation.
We already use the export-to-desktop server method for importing HD files elsewhere. Good to know….I was simply looking for alternate methods and investigating Sorensen. So…let me get this straight…Sorensen should NOT be used for backing up HD Avid sequences or converting these sequences for later use (and expecting them to look broadcast-ready)?
    Thanks

    So true,my friend…so true.

Guess what…just now found out that because we have Sor Sqz 5 installed it won’t allow me to select any QT options, due to our version of QT installed(7.6.4)…we need to upgrade to Sor Sqz 6, I found out online.
    Always something 🙂

Maybe that’s my problem! For some reason,ALL the other choices are selectable in the Sorensen menus but Quick Time does NOT allow itself to be selected. Is this normal? Any idea what would be not allowing me to select Quick Time? It’s greyed out.
Thanks for spending the time here to help out a fellow editor.

    Thanks for the response,Glen.
I am sitting in front of Sorensen Sqz. 5 as I write this, but I see no dropdown choices for re-wrapping this .wmv file in the SD format I need it to be at…MPEG 50-SD SDI (I need to output these graphical .wmv elements to an SD tape at MPEG 50).
When I click on the MPEG 4 HD choice and go over to the Codec drop-down, it only lists 2 Sorensen codecs, an APple codec and a “Main Concept” codec…all of which are H264.
I am relatively new to Sorensen, and I realize that Avid (I’m using an Avid Symphony Nitris DX and Win XP) doesnt accept wmv files. We also cant ask the client to provide us with another file format for these files (more trouble than you can possibly imagine!).
I found a tutorial online, but the video is so low-rez looking I can’t read anything on the video screen 🙂
    Not my day,I guess….

Interesting…thanks. Management has informed us we WILL be using DN in edit for outputs soon…and we do a LOT of 2-hour outputs (HD and SD).

I’ve heard it adds more than real-time hours to output sessions…but noone has confirmed this yet. Has anyone here used DN with Avid during outputting?

POint taken,Ed. Thanks for the advice. I”ll be testing on and off so that our editors have a setting that we all use…that is the aim of my testing. Everyone seems to be using different settings. One thing for certain is that, for some reason, the receivers of our QT files dont want to use our ftp site anymore…they simply want the promos e-mailed to them. THey’re basically all 30 or 60 SD (some HD) Avid sequences.
WE dont have a lot of room….I know the size usually cant be more than 10 MB,and is almost always larger than 1 MB.

I realize the size of the seqs make this prohibitive.Still,I’m wondering if there are any optimal QT settings to send sequences through email.

Actually,we’re talking about :30 and :60 SD and HD Avid sequences. I’ve been charged with finding optimal QT export settings to send these sequences via email. I realize the size of the seqs make this prohibitive. For some reason the powers that be would rather use email than an ftp site. Long story.
So I’m wondering if there are any optimal QT settings to send sequences through email.
