I apologize for jumping late.
But I couldn’t let this one go.
First, why the heck are you listening to tone? Set it, check it, record it.
1K is the defacto standard for the industry. Has been for the 28 years I have been in the business.
Just because 400 is easier on the ears doesn’t make it right.
Standards exist for a reason, to keep the work flow consistent across the industry. That way when I shoot a tape and uplink it to where ever or give it to an editor, they will ALWAYS set the tape to bars and 1K tone! (standards).
I’d be careful posting misinformation. Some new sound guy might listen. Then he’d look awfully dumb.

I own a 100A in addition to my broadcast gear.
What I use on it is the Sennheiser 100’s. $600 for diversity and 1500 channels and a handheld transmitter. Plus they come with a clip to mount on hot shoe. Plus there are adpators you can buy to mount another on the bottom so you have 2 wireless going. Perfect for run and gun.
NOTE: the cables that come with them suck. I had my audio guy build new ones.
I have adapted a few of my trams over to the Sennheiser mount. The lavs that come with 100 are passable till you can afford more.
I agree with Ty. It is a matter of perspective. The newbies do just what Ty said. Undercut everyone, then screw it up with bad audio. Seen it 100 times.
ALWAYS, work with an audio tech. They save my butt regularly! 🙂

Good Advice all.
When recording for live events we always get a “LINE LEVEL” feed from main board. In all the years we have been at it we have never been turned down. Of course you’ll need to approach the sound people properly. They can get testy.
Using a cable to camera is a no-no in my book as it is an insurance issue if someone trips. Unless you stay right next to board to shoot. PLus, being tied to cable limits your creativity.
Always use line level and be sure to get program out not monitor as was mentioned above.
In your kit make sure to carry 1/4 to XLR male and female as some boards don’t have XLR outs. Also, it is a good idea to carry a mic/line pad. Especially in Rock and roll or live events. One other thing, get a great pair of headsets!
A good inexpensive diversity wireless system is the Sennheiser 100. Over 1500 channels and plenty of settings for internal pad. One this with using wireless hop is you’ll need to check frequencies with sound mixer. But with 1500 channels that shouldn’t be a problem.

You get the best of both worlds. Comes with mini and XLR cables. Has nice mount for hot shoe. Also comes with butt plug to make your stick into a wireless. And of course comes with a LAV.

When in doubt always stick with what you know.
+15 on peds is STUPID. Typical film student who has no idea about NTSC standards or engineering setups.
Stick with 7.5 and THEN tweak it in post. If you think you have to.
DVX is a great tool for filmakers. I LOVE the camera.
