Additional wake up and smell the silicon wafers: https://www.digitalrebellion.com/webapps/video_calc.html

This indicates that one hour of uncompressed 1080P will need 500.15 GB’s…ummm…OK then, point absorbed.

The frame rate is 23.98, which would be the preferred output from the D800 or D4 bypassing the card capture.

    Hi Folks,

    Am I being confused?

This off of the HyperDeck 2 promo page:

    “Compressed or Uncompressed

Now you have the freedom to work in both compressed and uncompressed video depending on the needs of your project! Uncompressed video will always produce the highest quality mathematically perfect results and is ideal when recording video for color correction, chroma keying and high end VFX work.

When you need longer recording duration or you’re working with lots of video material, HyperDeck Shuttle 2 can be instantly changed over to use DNxHD MXF compressed video files.

The popular Avid DNxHD is a SMPTE standard codec that’s used by thousands of broadcast and post production facilities worldwide as it maintains the highest 10-bit video quality with the advantage of smaller file sizes.”

More to the point, and correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t ProRes a long in the tooth codec somewhat a legacy of the MP2 flavor?

    Just askin’.

    Thanks,

    Rob

So, the key is to convert the native file to .AVI, save a file as a copy, then re-save it with the .avi extension, see if it opens.

If not, then download the convertor from VLC, it should allow for another format to be rendered.

    HI,

You may need to get the VLC media software/player free from the web, or Quicktime from iJOBS.

    Hi Tony,

Noting that the uncompressed video is not mentioned here, AKAIK it’s 4.2.2 into an SSD formatted for ProRes, Avid, CineForm etc.

24MP’s, good, will be similar to MK2/3 on the crop frame takes.

No uncompressed 14 bit raw, not so good.

No direct to SSD video out, not so good.

Nikon’s noise is slightly worse than Canon, but in video, DR is usually a bit better, toss up there (post removes noise well enough.

Cheap, better than anything else in the Nikon range (under 1K).

No substitute for the D800 however.

Optional mic port? Misprinted, likely means mic is optional.

    Not sure,

Mine is in, just waiting for my bank LOC.

Many folks scoured Best Buy and smaller shops, but…calling around, very tedious.

    Hi Tony,

The screens for zoom should replicate the on camera zoom functions and the DP4 does have a loupe accessory. I will not be picking up my D800 for another week or so, and don’t know this for certain.

The SSD recorders vary, I would check with companies who build them. I want to say yes, recalling that pass through is a function and in cases like the Ninja (correct me if wrong) the screen is integral on the recorder, capturing in 4.4.2 or better, AVID and ProRes. CineForm (PC or MAC) codec also has a field recorder, but it’s in the high end range, $4,000 and up.

The resolution is adequate for focus purposes in most circumstances.

Hand held is a function of motor skills, without a rig? Yes, arms tucked. With a rig? A more ergonomic solution as one’s arms and hands will get tired but the answer, yes.

Not sure if there are places in Cowland, but check the forums for displays and accessories etc.

The short answer is an LED screen, say a Small HD, DP4.

This type of accessory allows for pre-shot adjustments for potential overexposed or underexposed situations, plus more.

There are many brands, but the DP4 is also availed of a loupe.

Marshall, smallHD, and a dozen others.

Let me know if you change your mind 😉

The acid test, put your hand on the base plate at the top and pat the legs, if it shimmy’s, it’s not a good thing, that rig does not shimmy.
