Actually… yes AND no. They ARE available in Motion, only just the masking functionality, not the tracking.
But then, is that really relevant? I’d say using it in FCP is much easier anyway and you don’t lose any functionality or options.

Why should they have to pay for playback? FCP/Apple doesn’t have to either in the case of RED. It’s a free plugin. I don’t see why it should be such a big deal to simply tie into it. Though I think the standard folder structure and getting it sorted is the difficulty, not the playback itself. But then I really only want/need it to generate proxies for archiving (or even viewing). FCP is where I want the native files (at least optionally) which it could then send. Pretty much as it already does with everything else, too.

Not uncommon, since that is one of my biggest gripes at the moment also, yes. I really don’t understand why it can’t either, since archives are nothing but FOLDERS, only with a suffix to make them appear as a package on a machine with FCP X installed. It also still doesn’t do RED. Big bummer.
But all in all it’s an amazing tool for the money. And I am VERY curious to see what they have in store for the next version. Very much hoping for a server version.

The alternative of course being, that you do it the other way around. 😉 Change the graphic into a 3D object. Make an SVG version of it, go to glyphter.com (which actually already has a cloud like that in its standard glyphs) and make a font out of it…

That’s because the image is a 2D object and the text 3D. 3D text exists in it’s own space. For them to obstruct each other, they BOTH have to be EITHER OR, not mixed. And the only thing that can currently be 3D is TEXT (i.e. anything that’s a FONT).

You kinda just answered the question yourself. Whatever the default setting for transition duration is in FCP X is of course the duration they will be when inserted into your project, yes.
OR you check the “Override FCP” box under the duration in the project properties panel. Whichever suits you best.

Bummers. Won’t make it this time around. Would have loved to see it. In what context? Is there some sort of X-centric event going on somewhere?
Maybe take a few pointers from Tom. 🙂 He really shows the gamut of X… at lightning speed, too! Day-um. 😀 Otherwise anything off your blog. You have some great little gems there! Depending on the audience, really (experienced or inexperienced).
