Actually, a second “old” compound IS created. Only invisibly, since otherwise you’d have a copy of every compound clip for every snapshot of every project, which would be annoying to say the least. An instance of the “old” one is actually created (i.e. made visible if you will) if you make any changes to it in the snapshot. Otherwise you could of course simply use the “Reference New Parent Clip” command. Which is more of less the same as duplicating the compound in the event only from the timeline.

Yes, but then those are GENERAL drivers, not GPU specific (unlike the OS drivers). They are updated with any and every change to the GPU line up. Just because they need updating doesn’t mean they are necessarily relevant to your specific GPU. But hey, if it works… 🙂

Ah. My bad. Was thinking *nMP*. But then the drivers are updated with the OS, so I’m not sure that manually updating is exactly necessary (or even recommended) on Macs with standard Nvidia GPUs. As you say yourself, that can obviously introduce unexpected performance issues/bugs. But who knows. I’ve never needed it myself for my MBPs. 😉

Especially seeing that no rMBP (that I know of) even has an Nvidia GPU to begin with, I’m not sure why you’d even want a CUDA driver either way. Simply removing it could actually be an even better solution. ;-D

I’m not aware of any such app unfortunately. But you definitely sound like the perfect candidate for “Photo” once it’s out. 🙂 (and assuming Adobe in fact implements its support in LR)

I don’t actually understand why that should be necessary. At least not when and if you’re ingesting directly from the camera/card. NOT copying the files in the Finder first. A big no-no with that kind of footage.

I’d say it’s no doubt recording INTERLACED and you’re simply seeing the fields. The clip also suggests that you have a screwy field dominance but also most likely a completely wrong fps upon output also (which is why it bumps at pretty much exactly 1-second intervals). It also sounds like the footage isn’t being interpreted correctly by FCP X on top of everything, which ALL will most likely will have to do with the (as I’ve said, normally completely unnecessary) rewrapping. If interlaced material is being interpreted correctly, you should not see them at all in the viewer whilst editing.

Depending on how the footage was in fact recorded, you need to go into the clip’s info window and set the “Video Field Dominance” accordingly. Which setting is correct I can’t say without seeing the actual footage. But that will near definitely be your problem.

I personally haven’t used anything other than iDVD (iLife ’11) for years, should the need arise, even though I’m more than capable of working DVD SP (as a former trainer). It is THE easiest and fastest way to make an all out customised DVD at max quality, without the – IMHO – way too convoluted, overblown feature set (for what one needs 99.9% of the time) and handling of apps such as DVD SP or Encore.

Check Ebay or an old Mac and get it for a few bucks or even for free. Set the project to “Professional Quality” and simply drag’n’drop your way to a nice looking DVD. 🙂

BTW, if it’s to be played on a BD-player, you can use FCP X to make what I call a “Mini-BD” disk. Which is an HD version of your movie burnt onto a regular DVD-R as an AVCHD clip. Only you’re limited to around 30 mins. and playback only works on a BD-player.

I haven’t worked with LR for years, but if it doesn’t have some sort of standard export format for its database, then I’d say… no. Bit I’m not sure what that has to do with Finder tags either.

Question is: why would you want to import your LR library of all things into an NLE?

Actually, it’s only 5K because the RED otherwise records cropped, not because it’s actually needed. And of course there’s nothing to be said against a little reframing freedom. 😉

Well, for me, the (alleged) savings stand in no relation to the (also, relatively speaking, alleged) performance gain. Which actually aren’t that once you take issues e.g. like this into account. Of which there are (were) many. But hey… to each his own. 😉

A contradiction in terms if you ask me. Since, again from experience, if there’s anything you need to run (and keep running) a Hackintosh, then it’s extensive technical abilities. Certainly exponentially more than with a regular Mac.
