I meant to write “You’ll simply want FCP X to COPY everything to a predefined directory instead upon import” btw. Not do it in the Finder yourself.

Agreed. Which was my point about the cameras. Unless you have a pretty old Mac, I don’t see what you expect to gain from transcoding H.264 or Long GOP MPEG to anything above ProRes 422. Since you factually won’t be gaining anything. Other than maybe exponentially more data.

Agreed also. Always helpful to give feedback. Though then, actually given 4444 or even XQ options(!), I think way too many will be using the “Goes to 11!” attitude and using them completely unnecessarily. Which may well open a whole new can of worms. Of course for those that *actually* need it it’s of course an advantage. But then, who would that be? RED shooters? RED is already automatically transcoded to 4444 if optimised. And all other high-end cameras are supported natively.
If anything, then I’d actually like AN ALPHA option for ProRes Proxy! 😛

I don’t get it. Do you have BOTH or just ONE…? If you have both, then couldn’t you answer the question better yourself?
I don’t know which “card” you’re talking about, but I don’t see why the monitor couldn’t be connected to the iMac one way or another. But by GPU power alone plus the Thunderbolt I would suspect the iMac would pretty much smoke the MP in all or nearly all disciplines. But then as far as FCP is concerned, the CPU in near irrelevant. GPU is king. So I suppose it depends on what GPU the MP has, first and foremost. But again, I personally doubt the MP can hold up in the long run either way.

Yes, it will be. The leave in place is only greyed out if coming directly from a card or camera or archive. You’ll simply want to COPY everything to a predefined directory instead. After that I would suspect it should be fine. No idea what’s going on exactly without sitting in front of it.

Simply use the original/native footage! Why insist on optimising? Aside from not even seeing the issue is to begin with, since even regular ProRes is better than anything coming from either of those cameras. Unless there’s some hack I don’t know of that lets them do better than 4:2.0 and/or long GOP MPEG!

Never mind that it never originated from me to begin with. Aside from never attacking any real person in any way either, only a personal caricature. I also don’t see anyone actually feeling spoken to either. If you want to take (imho) exaggerated and misguided offence to it all… oh well. This is mountain and mole-hill material if you ask me.
