Do not use the Apple Intermediate Codec, ever.
It was a bodge job before the HDV codec was released.
Use the HDV codec, should be in FCP already.
I always install the latest blackmagic codecs, I’m not sure if this makes any difference in this case, but it’s never a bad thing to do. http://www.decklink.com
You should look at my thread below that Walter Biscardi and Steve Connor have been involved with, it’s all about capturing HDV into FCP 5.0.2

Man you are doing so much to help me out, I really appreciate it. So cool of you.
Funny we must be on the same page. I just found the exact same page from the Apple site. I’m trying it out with the two settings-
One in Clip settings (checkbox off)
and also the setting in user preferences.Hopefully the combination of these two settings will fix the problem.
I’ll let you know in about 15 minutes…

It’s to do with the fact that HDV works with Mpeg2 GOP files or something.
I’m trying something new now…
I’ll give you feedback if it works to save someone going through my last 24 hours experience.

FCP will not do this with HDV at the moment, I refer you to the following article:

This is the key line:
Warn After Capture
When you capture HDV, this option behaves identically to the Abort Capture option.And there lies my problem

I don’t mind it breaking the footage up into separate chunks, what I can’t live with is a. it missing out chunks and b. It stopping capturing and saying timecode error.

Thanks Ed that’s all really useful. I guess that there’s not too much about HDV yet, which is the real thing that I wanted technical specs for, it’s a newish format I guess.
