Wait, I’m still confused…I think.

Let me see if I have this right.

Use ProRes422(HQ) if I’m capturing with hardware, such as a Kona3 card?

If I’m converting footage that is already captured and in my computer, then I only need to convert to ProRes422?

What if you are capturing from a P2 card? Or what if I offloaded the data from the P2 card to a hard drive while working in the field?

if you want to stick with FCP, make sure the “Frame Blending” box is check in the Speed Change dialogue box.

IMO, FCPs time remapping isn’t that good. I suggest taking the clip into Motion and using the Optical Flow feature. Motio will create new frames as opposed to just blending existing frames. I think Shake does this too.

Select all the still images when they are in the timeline, right click, choose “duration,” then make the adjustment

In the Motion tab of the viewer window, there is a “scale” parameter. Or you can do it in Photoshop.

Either way, I think you will lose image quality. Ideally you want to use images that match the dimensions of the format you are working with, or twice the dimensions if you want to pan and zoom with the images.

hmm…what your export settings? Does RED record square pixels. You may need to make sure the export has non-square pixels. I’d look at that first.

And, are you checking the tape on a broadcast monitor as opposed to a computer monitor? I’ve down-converted DVCProHD to DVCPro 50, and it does look bad on the computer, but it looks fine on a broadcast monitor when I’m working in FCP.
