Woops, I figured it out already. I thought I came on here and explained, but I guess my post didn’t go through.
I’d prefer to have the black layer on top with the image mask so I can just export that layer and drop it into FCP. That way if I want to change the clip “inside” the text, I just change it in FCP.
Anyway, I figured it out. I just animated the text used for the image mask first. Once that was done, I duplicated that text layer, turned off the Fill and turn on the Outline. Works perfect.
But thanks anyway! I appreciate it 🙂

Someone on here recommended CD Finder on here to me.
At my current job, we don’t have the manpower or time to thoroughly log out media the way you would in FIle Maker Pro. We just wanted to be able to look through our Drobos without having to swap 8 drives every time we want to look at a new set. CD Finder was the perfect solution. It simply catalogs your storage devices. After you have everything catalog, all you ever have to do is open CD Finder and search for what you want. They have tutorials on their site that show how simple it is. It’s a real time saver at my work.

“I don’t wanna spoil any remarks, but in Motion you can actually build your own double/triple- window interface and save and manage it.”
Wow, you’re right! You just rip the tabs off the pane. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that. Ugh, I feel like a dummy

Were you able to see if it was a single-window interface (like Motion)? I’d hate that.
And did they mention anything about the Browser window (if thats still what it’s called)? I don’t know if I’m liking that film-strip view. I prefer the list view. I hope you can still do list view.
And that feature about adding keywords to a portion of a clip – doesn’t necessarily seem better than adding markers to a clip and adding a note to the marker. At least you can read that in list view. If an amateur doesn’t bother doing that now, why would they take the time to do it with this new keyword feature?
It was a nice presentation, but it hasn’t stopped me from considering a purchase of Avid 5.0

I like the way the new interface looks. Reminds me more of Avid than iMovie, but maybe that’s because I’ve never really used Avid (only looked at it) and haven’t used iMovie since High School (2004-05).
So is this a single-window interface like Motion now?

Honestly, I think what will happen is what I’m currently going through. After college, I got a job with a company that has their own in-house marketing team. I do everything from conceptualizing through delivery. And I’m lucky enough to be with a company that doesn’t skimp on money. We don’t use flip cameras. We usually use an EX3, but a RED has been rented for larger shoots.
Most post houses will probably go away, but the jobs probably won’t. The jobs with be with a corporation’s own in-house team. And if they’re smart, they will hire the talented ones.

“this type of work will be as common as knowing how to use a word processor. And will probably pay the same.”
It probably will become just as common, but I don’t think it will pay the same. You still have to know how to tell a story to be a good editor. As we all know, simply having the software doesn’t make you good at it.
People aren’t better writers just because they have Microsoft Word…

Look at it this way:
If Apple completely rewrites FCP so that it’s targeted toward consumers, if what you have works for you now, then it will continue working for at a least a little while long, maybe a lot longer.
You don’t have to make a switch just because Apple has something new. I’m still on FCS2 at home and at work. It works just fine.

I suppose it could take an hour to make the reference file. I mean, you are only using a Macbook Pro.
Bring your reference file into Compressor. It is a superior program to MPEG Streamclip. If you find Compressor to be confusing, read the manual. No one opens up a program and immediately knows how it works. Ya gotta read the manuals in this field.
QMaster can be found in System Preference, but to utilize the Quick Cluster, you’ll have to choose it right before you submit the job in Compressor. So no, Compressor doesn’t automatically use all cores. And honestly, you only have 2 cores. Your encoding speeds will not be that much faster.
