    @ John Rofrano

I have gone the same route as you did John and specifically for the same reasons you have pointed out! And I have no regrets! FCPX as made me discover the Mac OS back in 2011.

May I add that Microsoft also forced me to an upgrade from Win 8.0 to 8.1 upon a restart and while I was editing a project. I just couldn’t believe it that they took full control of my computer for this non requested upgrade which messed up several settings once installed and I needed to figure out before I could move on with my project.

And there are just to many updates that need you to restart and update your computer, why can’t it just shutdown and update?

Reinstalling a Mac OS is just fast and simple with the latest build available, and no need to reinstall your Microsoft Office Suite which will need numerous updates and a service pack or two or perhaps move you to a subscription plan. I now use Pages which is part of the Mac OS.

The only reason I still use the Windows environment is because I use Vegas now and then.

So no hurry in getting Windows 10 and I’d rather wait and see what free really means.

It would definitely be great if you could dock the toolbar. I always felt it should of been placed right above the timeline to quickly access your editing tools.

Also, the Shuffle, Slip, Slide, Time Stretch and Split Tools in the Quick Menu should of been sitting individually across the toolbar for immediate access and have keyboard shortcuts assigned to each of them or a cycle command. The quick menu is counterintuitive and just slows down the tools accessibility.

Hopefully these issues will be addressed in a soon to be released update. This would make me upgrade to V13.

I am speechless Mike! So this is possibly the same feature as in V13, only they made it into a new tool and one could have it selected while doing some shuffling.

I do like the fact that you can right-click your event and drag it, very convenient, will definitely be using it this way.

    Thanks for sharing.

I just hope that they assigned it a keyboard shortcut. I haven’t seen a popup on the demo showing one.

With autoripple turned on, you cannot insert an event without everything moving along. This feature alone will greatly accelerate the editing process.

The shuffle tool should be very useful.
It does seem to replicate the FCPX magnetic timeline and in a better way, you can switch it off by selecting another tool.

And if you would want to follow the FCPX editing paradigm, you could always use the sync link feature and connect your events to your primary event or any event perhaps, because you are not bounded to a primary storyline as in FCPX.

Will be very interesting to see how this new tool behaves on the timeline with sync link and the other tools like the split tool.

Sony brought some very great shortcuts in V12, all of which has made for a faster and more fluid editing experience in Vegas.

    Looking forward to V13.

  • Or you could use the Position tool -P-

Select you event and move it to the primary storyline where you can freely place it where you want and not lose sync. It is as if you are momentarily disabling the magnetic timeline, everything stays still and your new event will simply overwrite the primary storyline.

I understand Steve, but I never managed to get something that was pleasant. Changing the Windows theme affects your entire Windows experience which I didn’t like and didn’t serve me well with Vegas. I would appreciate if you could post a sample of your Vegas UI.

But Vegas should have that feature built-in just like Premiere has. Let’s face it, you spend countless hours sitting in front of a UI, having some kind of adjustment to make it look darker (or brighter) should be a standard feature.

I don’t think there is much you can do in order to achieve a decent darker UI in Vegas. I have tried this several times under Win 7 and also Win 8 to no satisfaction.

The Vegas UI definitely need some way to adjust the background darkness. I also would prefer it to be darker and making it adjustable, where we could each have it our way.

I was kind of getting tired of the Vegas color scheme and after 12 years of editing on a regular basis under Vegas, I found out recently that you can, to the very least, change the Track Display Colors which, for the time being, is making my Vegas UI look a little better. I do need some change once in while!

  • Thanks so much for the follow-up Peter!
